I know this seems to be the trend as NCL will start this on Monday and follow RCCL and Celeb. Does anyone have any idea if HAL plans to follow as well? Please say no :)

I hope not. :( I have come over here from RCCL and Celebrity and I am having too much fun looking for the best deal for our next cruise! :)

I don't know if they have or haven't but I won't be surprised if they do go after discounters soon. It's a industry trend, supported by a substantial increase in demand for cruising. The post 9/11 bounce for the industry has the majority of main stream lines sailing full or nearly full and they're going to ride it for all that it's worth. I'm not happy about it and it's certainly going to reduce my cruising but as long as the demand holds up they're probably not too worried about what I think. :(

If I remember past discussion on this topic, they are not eliminating discounting by the travel agents. They're just telling them they can't advertise those extra discounted rates. Everyone should still be free to pursue the best deal they can get.

I believe that Carnival has the policy you just stated. According to an e-mail from my TA they can still discount HAL cruises.

Holland still allows t/a's to discount either on their internet price displays or in any manner on the phone or in their offices.

I called HAL in response to one of their promotional e-mails and asked for their best Mariner quote on one of the advertised "specials". I finally booked the same cruise / cabin class for about 32% less using a discount TA we have used before resulting in a $1,000+ discount from what HAL called a special. :)

I even got a discount from American Express, which really shocked me. It seems I booked on a "group sailing".

I received an email promoting a 14 day HAL Alaska cruise (actually two 7 days combined) that was about the same price as one 7 day cruise. I called HAL about it and they said it was entirely possible and that they discount to volume buyers. Does anyone have any experience with Crucon?

I have booked many times with CruCon and was always happy with their prices and service..........
