Was curious to see how formal the attire was for New England, we went on an Alaska cruise in August and the dress was fairly informal, even on formal night. Debating on whether DH should bring his suit or if dress shirt and ties are sufficient.

It was about the same as Alaska when we went. There are always people who dress proper and people who do not. I think you could get away without the suit, but I did bring mine even though it was a lot to pack! I just love dressing up and thought I would regret it if I did not bring it.

I would bring whatever is recommended regardless of where you are sailing.
On our cruises I have found the level of dress on a New England cruise similar to that of Alaska.
