Either the Westerdam has trays or this review lacks accuracy. http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=68532 Read paragraph 6.

I noticed that the reviewer claims to have sailed on the Westerdam in May, 2010, in the Caribbean. I find this unbelievable, as I boarded the Westerdam in Venice (Italy) on May 4, 2010. The ship had just completed a long-ish trans-At.
If reviewer can't get something as simple as when he sailed correct, I can't give the review any credence.
btw---there were no trays on the Westerdam on the May 4, 2010 cruise.

There were no trays on Westerdam November, 2009.

A couple of more "What????"s: paragraph 5 refer to the the Concierge Lounge. Capital C, not small.
Next to last paragraph says "our billed “gratuities” amounted to $30 per day for our cabin or an additional $210 for the week"

His last review was 4 years prior on Seabourn Spirit. So he was at least comparing apples to oranges.

No trays unless, of course, pax bring their own.
Also, HAL does not sail the Carib in May ... except for the half of May shown on HAL's calendar for the Maasdam.
Simple math tells me his gratuities don't add up either.
If these facts are wrong, I would be suspect of anything else this member says about the sailing.
I'm surprised the Board mods/hosts would permit a review to be put up on this site when, clearly, there are issues ... not in personal perceptions but in facts.

His last Roll Call posting for a HAL ship was the Westerdam sailing May 30, 2007 ... in the Mediterranean.

The review doesn't reflect any of my experience on Westerdam in Feb. Definitely no trays then, nor on Oosterdam last year. EM

EM and I were on the same cruise in february and no trays.
Also, as mentioned the $30.00 per day does not add up in any way, beig $11.00 per person per day if there are 3 of them traveling it would be $33.00 not $30.00.
Me thinks this review is a blatant fabrication...

Hmmmmmm, he was on a cruise in Europe in very late April, then manages to make a cruise out of FLL in May that doesn't exist?
I think the Mods need to look at this guy's post as very suspicious.

To lie about trays is the pinnacle of fabrication. I'll bet this poster went around school in the second grade and told his friends that Santa Claus was not real. Here I had hope for the Lido. I'm crushed. :)

I know that this roll call seems suspect but the first thing that came to mind for me was maybe there were trays in May of 2007 when he was on the Westerdam, maybe the gratuities were different then as well. I work with memory impaired seniors and sometimes something that seemed like yesterday really was a few years ago. Call me a sucker but maybe he's not making this stuff up but just remembered to post a review. Should I duck?

What a good post. It is very possible you are correct.
Hotel service charge was $10 pp per day three years ago and there definitely were trays in Lido.

Anyone that has sailed HAL, knows trays disappeared fleet wide, and most likely will never return.

The review says he embarked at Ft Lauderdale and went to Aruba and Curacao in May 2010 ... one month before the review was posted on 6/20/10. He can remember details like the amount of the "gratuity" and having a tray but not where he was? It just doesn't add up.

I'm as confused as you all are & feel this review is suspect..
Therefore, sent an e-mail to both Host Walt & Host Joe & asked them to look at this thread & the Posters review..
Cheers...:)Betty

talk to each other 20 times a day on a free internet forum, and then, when you don't agree with what you see. email host walt? your really losing the spirit of the sailing experience in pre judging imo.

The issue is not disagreeing with a review. This review is either a fake or somehow got very jumbled in posting or done way after the cruise and incorrectly dated. If a bad or unfair review of a real cruise is posted, then it is posted. If it was faked, it needs to be removed IMO.

is exactly what is being read here with the pre judgements, kinda like formal night without a tu:eek:x and the looks you get when you just walk down the deck/ any deck on formal night. In My Opinion..

What are you trying to say? ..It has nothing to do with agreeing with or not agreeing with a review....The facts don't jive & it's totally confusing....Did you read it ? Or are you pre-judging me without knowing the facts?:o
The reviewer said he was on the Westerdam this May to the Caribbean... However the Westerdam was in Europe this May when he supposedly was on it to the Carribean..
He also said his tips for his cabin were $30 per day..That does not jive with anything..For two people they would be $22 or for 3 people they would be $33..He was very upset that tips were added to his invoice..
He also spoke about holding trays in the Lido & looking for a table..Trays have not been on HAL ships for over a year..
There seemed to be other inconsistencies & that's why I asked the Hosts to look at it..It has nothing to do with disagreeing with a bad review it totally has to do with getting facts straight..
Now JoJo's Momma gave a very plausible explanation.. Sometimes people who have memory problems actually remember things which happened years ago & think they just happened recently...Apparently he was on the Westerdam in 2007 & all I asked is that Walt or Joe take a look at both this thread & the review because CC states they look at reviews carefully to be sure the facts are correct..
Please don't be so fast to pre-judge another poster if you don't know the facts..

They do sail there in early May. We sailed on the Noordam to Southern Caribbean this year from 4th to 14th May prior to the TA.

Have you read the review in question?
Why would any you be discussing the Noordam's calendar, when the reviewer said he was on the Westerdam..His review is confusing enough without adding to it...;)

Yes, I read the review and I understand it deals with the Westerdam.
In my original comment I indicated that HAL didn't do the Carib in May ... and apparently, they do.
It was not my intention to create or add to any confusion ... in fact, the only confusion here seems to be in the mind of the individual whose review was linked on this thread.

I apologize for that & do understand...It's just that this thread is getting really confusing now....
The more I read of that review, the more I think that JoJO's Mama is correct.. Just heard today about a friend who had a stroke & is sending out info he found on his computer for club functions which took place in 2009... Some people in the club are wondering if the club calendar is changing..Another sad case..

Hi everyone!
We've gone ahead and written to the member to obtain clarification of the sail date and itinerary. I suspect when he said "trays" he probably meant "food he was carrying in his hand".
Anyway, I wanted to address the statement above. We do review all submissions of cruise reviews to our site. We will write to members if we see blatant and glaring errors. But the truth of the matter is, there are over 450 ships sailing each week (give or take) and there is no way a single person could have all itineraries memorized, plus we receive hundreds of submissions each week!
That's why we rely on members to let us know if something is clearly out of wack. We appreciate your letting us know, as you've done here. You can also write to us directly at: community@cruisecritic.com, or reviews@cruisecritic.com

Notice that I gave a link to a post where he talked about being on board the Legend on April 19th and getting off on Wednesday in Lisbon.
The Westerdam left Ft Lauderdale for Venice on April 14th!! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=992987
There is no way that he was on the ship in May.
