Hello, I am new to your forum. My family and I will be going on an Alaska cruise on the Oosterdam in August. My two young sons and I must eat gluten free, and HA was notified of this at the time of our booking. I was wondering if anybody has experience with what we might be able to eat while on board the ship. We have been on the Disney Magic while eating gluten free, and were well fed. They even provided us with gluten free birthday cake.

Thanks in advance.

Barbara:)

Barbara--

Members of my family have Celiac disease - so we're kinda "in the same boat" as you. Although I'm not wheat intolerant (yet - too much gluten makes me break out w/ acne...) I do make a point to avoid eating too much bread, etc.

I've always found yummy non-wheat things on board to eat like fresh fruits for breakfast (try adding the stewed prunes to your oatmeal!), really fresh stir-frys, meats and salads for lunch (bear in mind, the stir-fry station is open only for a limited time every day), and delicious ice creams and fruit flambe's for dessert.

I believe the noodles in the Bami Goreng are rice noodles - be sure to check w/ your waiter so your boys might be able to enjoy the Indonesian Luncheon too!

Brian, thanks for the info. I hadn't even considered fruit flambe. Yum! Celiac always makes travel fun and exciting.

I'm really looking forward to the Oosterdam.
