Been reading the boards and have seen DH in reference to husbands, and DD in reference to daughters, but what exactly do the initial stand for ?

Ah, I see - I always thought it was "Damn". Or maybe "Dam", on this forum.

"Dam" or "dear" -- it could be either! or "Darling"
Other handy abbreviations:
MIL- mother in law
SIL - sister in law, etc.
SO- significant other

I have another question. What does "D" stand for at the end of a sentence or paragraph?
Thanks for the answer.

Are you sure it's a "D", Jennie? Could it be a ": D"? (I had to leave a space to get it to type in symbols)(Or "D:"? I forget which.)
That's the symbol that creates the green big grin symbol. :D

What does DH stand for ?It depends upon whether DH has done something sweet or something stupid (usually the latter).:D

Yes, Jennie, I think you're seeing the broad grin at the end of a sentence. Some people don't use smilies and just use the regular keys : D
I always like to think of DH as "darling husband".
But the real shocker came to me yesterday on a thread where someone typed BSA and I thought they were being foul mouthedhttp://boards2.cruisecritic.com/images/smilies/frown.gif . Turned out they meant Boy Scouts of America. Shows where my mind is.http://boards2.cruisecritic.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks Ruth and Heather,
Yes you are right, it is more than a D. Now I know that it is a grin. Thank so much. It has been appearing on a lot of posts and I had no idea what it meant. I had racked my brain but couldn't come up with anything other than "dear" or "dam" and that didn't make sense! I am a dummy with abbreviations I am afraid.;) ;)
