Hi all
My wife and I are off on our first ever cruise on the Thomson Spirit on 6th August to celebrate our 50th birthdays. I have recently been told by a work colleague that the Spirit suffers from bad engine vibration that kept him awake when he cruised on her. Has anybody had a similar experience or is this an exageration of the problem.
Thanks

We were on the Celebration which is the same ship as the Spirit and we noticed the vibration a lot. We knew about it before we went but it was worse than we thought especially towards the rear of the ship. It went from a slight tremble to 8.5 on the richter scale one night, lol :D:D. The trouble is it doesn't stop even in port so there's no escape from it on board, although it didn't keep us awake. We were watching the World Cup in the show lounge on a big screen and it trembled all the way through.
The funny thing is that it didn't bother a lot of people and events going on onboard did take our minds off it but, although it probably wouldn't stop us booking again if we liked the itinerary, we would prefer to sail on another ship. We were on Deck 1, midships.
As I said, when we mentioned it to other people a lot of them didn't mind it so I can't really say if it would be a problem to you. We didn't let it spoil our holiday though and had a good time.
Don't let me put you off, I'm sure you won't notice it, like a lot of others, but be aware that it's there. Have a great holiday.:)

We were on the Celebration last year (sister ship which is supposed to have the same vibration) & noticed the vibration most in the Horizon Bar (top of ship) and the Lido deck. It did not detract at all from the enjoyment of our holiday & we didn't obviously notice it in our cabin (deck 3); five of our party slept really well - I slept well for 5 nights, the only reason I didnt sleep well the other 2 was because the sea was very rough which kept me awake!!
We are going on the Spirit soon - it certainly did not put us off !!

We are due off on 27th August, so will be waiting for your comments on your return, Doomcubed!
I booked the cruise then started worrying about the vibrations, and for someone who does not travel well, I am beginning to really worry. How stupid!
We will be in cabin 418 A deck (3). If anyone reading this has stayed in this cabin, your comments are welcome......

As you are at the front of the ship, you are more likely to get affected by the "swell" movement from the ship than the vibration. We were on deck 3 but were mid-ship and the vibration really was not bad on deck 3!

We were on in March and the only place we noticed it was in the Show lounge...we were on Deck 6 forward of midships and couldn't feel it at all there...so don't worry !! :)

I've been having similar concerns since we've pre-booked 113 deck 7 on Celebration - our 1st Thomson cruise. But no matter how much you read the reviews on vibration you can't help thinking it's all over the ship - some say they felt it more at the back, some say on the top decks and some say the front - so I really don't know. We will be on board from 16 Aug, then a week ashore, so once we return we will report back with our findings.

Were just back from 2 weeks on the Celebration.
Unless you have Sound/Movement Enhancers stuck to your Ears you will not know there is vibration.
Relax. You dont even know your on a floating bar until they are about to drop anchor.
Enjoy:)

Erm!! We definitely didn't have Sound/Movement Enhancers stuck to our ears whatever they are!! Some people notice it and some don't and if you don't you're very lucky.:):)

Hi.
Vibration will be there but its a real "so what" situation.
I was on a cruise, not my first by the way, last February and I thought I was feeling odd as i kept swaying in the line up for the Captain. I told my wife I thought I was going to pass out, when she told me it was the motion of the boat in the swell, oops I had forgotten about that on a cruise.:)
So yes there will be motion, vibration and some noise but there will be fun, good food, dancing, good company and lots of what ever takes your pleasure.
Have good one.

:D:D:D I suffered from a feeling of "still being on the ship" for about 2 weeks afterwards ie I still felt that I was moving from side to side (I guess it's something to do with balance and hopefully not the alcohol consumed :)) but it hasn't put me going off on another cruise!!

Same here, whenever I get off the ship I wobble about.
You have to rememeber as well, when dancing on the ship that sometimes the floor slips away just in the middle of a quickstep. Well that's my excuse :)

:) Spot on, I over do everything on a cruise !!!!!!!!!
Weight the worst, 5 pounds per week and thats with at least 2 strolls around the ship before cocktails.
Somebody once told me they actually lost weight on a cruise. Wow
