Thanks in advance

It depends on the ship. R or S class? Vista? Son of Vista?

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question as to how the Js and Ks compare to each other, but there is another part to your question that you didn't ask.
On the Westerdam (on all the Vista and Signature ships), there's a significant difference in size depending on deck. The Js on Main Deck are significantly larger than the Js on other decks. I believe the same is also true for the Ks.

If you are looking at the Main Deck, the K's are as large as the J's. One way to be sure is to have your travel agent check the cabin size with HAL. Any J's and K's that are on the Verandah, Rotterdam and the Navigation Deck are all standard inside and they are very, very tiny. People were complaining about them on our recent cruise on the Westerdam.

I was in J1059 on the Westerdam. I loved how spacious our inside was compared to the Oceanview and other Insides that I have had. I would book one of these cabins again if I was cruising on a Vista or Signature ship. Only problem with this room was that we could hear the music from the Queen's Lounge. But it really wasn't as much of a problem as I thought it was going to be---it wasn't every night and they did end by 11:30 PM.

I am looking at the cabins on the Main deck.

I have some photos on the HAL Stateroom/Cabins Westerdam Page of J & K staterooms on the Main Deck, J 1018 describes it best:

" What a room! stateroom 1018 HUGE like the size of a jr suite on other ships. it was a square room and had nice bedding and ample storage 3 closets and a pit style sofette with a bed in it, a vanity and fridge and the bathroom was fine. it was very large only draw back was the TV being smaller did not swivel so you can see it better from the Bed. our cabin stewards were fantastic unobtrusive and knew our names.. we told them we only need clean towels and Ice.. they always had that avail. cutest towel animals and they still put chocolates on the Bed."

Thank you for all the info. While we were trying to make a decision, Cat VD #4166 opened up. $400 more than what we would have paid with a Cat K. You only live once!

Since you've resurrected an old thread, asking a different question, you might be better served if you ask your question in a new thread, directed to anyone who might have the answers.

Holland America has many ships and classes of cabin.

The best bang for the buck and the most comfortable I have yet found including the outsides, Balcony/Veranda is the J class but only if it is of square... not rectangular ... shape.
This mighty cabin has more square footage than any cabin but a suite...286 SQ ft. AND A bathroom twice the size of any rectangular inside or outside cabin And its half the price of Verandas ( if you want to consider costing it by the square foot its even more of a value than anything on tha darn ship):D

There are J cabins that are not square... look at the deck plan and dont be fooled. " If it Ain't Square dont be there"

So sorry I'm late in answering your question. I have been on vacation for the past 3 weeks.

We loved the J category rooms. My only complaint would be the music from Queen's Lounge. Since it usually ended around 11 PM, it was a minor complaint. And we weren't directly under it, but near enough to hear the music.

I haven't had time to e-mail my photos of the room to Joannie, put the room looks exactly like the pictures in the HAL brochures and online. Naturally they promote their largest room. I have included two photos that I took.
