OK - has anyone done any there? Is there any help for "newbies" so we can figure out how to do this? Is there snorkeling at the swimming beach or at some other, more remote area?

Neither DH or I have ever snorkeled but have reserved a Cabana that has snorkeling gear. I'd like to try it.

I don't know what has happened to the fish since the Hurricane went through. But- there has been some snorkeling over by the rocks where the tender comes in. Other then that--my hubby takes the snorkel tour every time we are at HMC. Penny

When I snorkled there, the variety of fish seemed to be limited to only one kind: an almost transparent, white fish. If you bought some bread or crackers with you, you didn't have to snorkel. The fish would mob you!

Snorkeling can be done by the rocks on the one side of the beach. HAL has also dropped a few structures onto the sand under the water. It is exciting to watch coral begin to grow on them and the fish use them as shelter. I was at HMC in December after the Hurricanes and it didn't seem to effect the fish at all. The flora was damaged, but is was great to see that it too was beginning to regenerate. Looking forward to seeing HMC again in March! P.S. Have fun, we just loved our cabana!

The fishes by the rocks are quite far from the cabanas; however my husband told me he saw lots of fishies if you swim far away from the shoreline. i.e. where the floating ropeline is.

Yes, the fish are transparent but big!
Coki Beach at St. Thomas has colourful fish and I fed them crackers. So exciting!

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like we can swim out a bit and see at least a few fish and if we are really ambitious we can hike to where the rocks are and see even more. Good to know. The more I learn the more excited I am getting about this trip.

Thanks again.
