And do you recommend it? We had early seating on our previous cruise ... as I recall it was around 5 or 5:30. Our TA has us waitlisted for early but I wonder if I should just ask him to change us to late. Is late less popular?

Oh, I just read in the sticky that it's 9 pm ... hmmm ... will have to consider if that's too late.

Late (fixed) seating for dinner in the MDR is at 8:00 pm (early fixed is at 5:45 pm). We like it because it gives you more time after a long shore excursion day.

On some ships I have seen late dining at 8:15 and once 7:45 but it is normally the 8 pm thing. Late dining is normally popular so if you want it, I would grab it now. You can always switch to any time dining if you prefer it. We like late especially for some of the ports and tours that take us well past the early dining time. Gives you a chance to relax and get ready for dinner feeling rested.

We always have main upper seating (8:00 p.m.) for the same reason John gave. We never want to feel rushed when in ports and enjoy having some time back in the cabin to rest and clean up in time to have a relaxing cocktail in the Explorer's Lounge before dinner.

I think on some ships it might be 8:15

Late seating on the Zuiderdam in Alaska was 7:45pm -- and it was still light outside. Usually it has been 8pm on other cruises.

8:00 pm on Statendam in AK, so apparently not the same on all dam ships

Thanks! I agree with those reasons!
