Help! Just got off the Zuiderdam (charter cruise w/Delbert McClinton -- most fun ever!) and realized the Verandah suite is going to be too small to share w/a friend in August (Rotterdam, Baltics, July 26th) so we're considering switching to two cabins.
Two questions. According to the HAL website -- the Verandah Suite on the Rotterdam is about 30 sf larger than the one on the Z'dam. Any thoughts on the the odds of where those 30 are? In the cabin as opposed to balcony or bathroom (where it really wouldn't make that much difference)? If we switch to singles, we'll go down to an outside stateroom. Anyone know anything about the two outside staterooms squeezed in on the Verandah deck towards the bow? Forgive my "overthinking" -- but.....well, you know :o
Thanks for your time.

If you are talking about D6100 and D6102, they are not Verandah cabins, although from the deck plan they may look like it. Table mates stayed in these 2 cabins and said when it was rough, you could really feel the seas. They were 2 couples and found the cabins quite comfortable for 2 people.
The A&B category verandah cabins on the Rotterdam are bigger than the A&B category ones on the Zuideram and the other Vista ships. If you want a verandah, take any one of the A's or B's.
Dont' forget, if you get 2 separate cabins, you will be paying 150% for each of them. Fares are based on double occupancy.
Heard everyone had a blast on your cruise. :)

Thanks for the quick response. Realize they are not Verandahs, but in consideration of the ever-present 150%, decided to step down. We're still thinkin' about whether to change from our Cat A Verandah. Glad to get confirmation the Verandah's are larger on the Rotterdam. Here's hoping the extra square footage is in the actual cabin! The Delbert cruise was our 7th and every bit as fun as the first -- we encourage all to try a most unique experience. Zuiderdam not our favorite ship, but certainly not the worst.

You do not want to be in the front on the Rotterdam in rough seas. Trust me on this one.
Been there; done that; ain't doin' it again.

Forward cabins tend to move in both directions. They roll and pitch.
We don't get seasick but don't want to do that again after our first cruise on the NCL Starward. Yes, she was smaller than the Rotterdam, but,
We were invited to dinner in the penthouse of the Rotterdam in 2003. We were in the waters approaching Guersney channel islands. We were very happy to get back to our midships cabin one deck lower, WOW what a ride!
We had very little motion midships even tho we had to miss our Guernsey stop due to rough seas. The Penthouse S7001 was a roller coaster compared to our "A" cabin 6174.

The extra space is in the cabin between the bed and the veranda where it is sorely needed. The Vista ships have small counters and drawer space in the VA and related cabins as compared to the other vessels. Sitting area on the Vistas is small, couch is uncomfortable and there is no table and lamp.
I was very cramped on the Westerdam and comfortable on the Zaandam, Veendam, Amsterdam, Volendam in the veranda cabins.
Go for a single cabin and you will be fine.

I think the difference in the size of the "S" on the Vista ships vs. all the other ships is signficant.
The lack of drawer space is a considerable irritant to me and I cannot understand why the 'genius designers' thought an empty space was preferable to six drawers. The extra walking around room, while not very many more feet, is enough to make a difference and I like the dressing room set up better on the older design ships.
Just my personal preference.
We were in Rotterdam's Penthouse 7002 and also thought there was more movement in that cabin than in the midship Suites we are accustomed to. We had calm seas, mostly, on the cruise we were in that Penthouse but did feel a difference.
