We will be flying from LAX to Rome to take our cruise. We have opted for the business class upgrade given the length of the flight. Anyone have any experience on which airlines Regent tends to use on this route? Thanks

A couple of years ago we went (from Florida) to Rome and Regent routed us through Philadelphia on US Air. The flight arrived early in the morning and they brought us to a meeting room at an airport hotel where we waited until about lunch time until they started shuttling groups to Civitavecchia to meet the ship. The airport is somewhere between Rome and Civitavecchia, so if you're thinking of doing a fast Rome tour, bear in mind that Rome is the other direction than going to the ship.

No matter which airline they use I suggest you pay a deviation fee and arrive at least one day early to avoid possible flight delays and/or lost luggage.

American Airlines 2 years ago. I believe you can pay deviation and pick airline, flight and date if Regent contracts with them.

Bfson: For our 2011 cruise we will fly to Rome, but will probably do our own air with miles on AA. Right now there are AA flights from San Diego to Chicago. Change planes there and fly to Rome. If these flights hold true for 2011, we will use them, but can't book until October.
I see that you live in San Diego, so why do you want to fly out of LAX? I know you asked about Regent's flights, but just thought I would provide another idea.

Catenai-I've been told that even with the business class upgrade, if one segment is domestic you still end up in coach for that segment. We will fly out of LAX so that we can get a non-stop to Europe that will be in business class.

Wripro-we always go at least a day to two early. Besides, in the case my wife has never seen Rome, so we are going 4 days early.

According to "Yapta" (one of the best websites we have found for air travel), there are no non-stop flights from LAX to ROM. American Airlines does have a flight that changes planes in Chicago which would then put you on Business Class from there. The flight back from LHR is direct.

u may also want to try itasoftware.com, which does show a non stop from
LAX to FCO (rome), tho I doubt regent uses alitalia.

I was using an alternate airport in Rome by mistake. However, the last poster may feel that Alitalia is a viable option. . . . however, if you do some research, you would not fly on this airline voluntarily (maybe the "Col" can test it out for everyone?).

Since you have another thread going regarding free upgrades to Business Class on your upcoming cruise, this thread probably won't matter anyway. Regent definitely is providing you incorrect information. Hope you get on the phone with your TA as soon as possible.

There is no free upgrade to business class on our Rome to London cruise.

HAHA, TC. My Marine son thinks that Alitalia coach(which the military booked him on for his Egypt deployment) is vastly better than flying Marine transport, so Col Wes might not be the one to ask this. You just have to put things in perspective.

That is interesting:-) I have no doubt that Alitalia is better than Marine transport. My opinion was based on internet research. . . . . obviously, your son understands this much better than we do;)

Last time we went to Rome the only NS flight we could find for LAX-FCO was on Aitalia. We decided a stop via JFK was a better option than risking a strike or other airline problem and missing the tours we scheduled. We went on Delta.

It was back in 2003, but back then when I used Regent air to fly home from Rome, they originally booked me on United. But because a one-day strike threw off my schedule, they switched me to Continental.

Bob - your cruise looks great and you two will love Rome. We did something similar a number of years back and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and also our time in Rome. We stayed at the St. Regis and had a wonderful experience. Just thought of you both as we were up in Clearlake wine tasting this past weekend! Love to you both.

I've been to Rome. Laurie has not. We will fly in a few days early so we see it at our leisure. Hope to see you 2 soon.
