This morning the OOSTERDAM has completed her voyage from Ft. Lauderdale to beatiful San Deigo, California and she will today begin her cruises on the Mexican Rivera. She is docked in San Diego right now, as I write these lines.

Just saw your post. What site are you using to see the "O" ? MY usual webcam of the port isn't working.

I wnet to the usual web-cam I always do. If you go to your search engine and type in "Destination Web Cam--San Diego" it should list the site and just click on and it should pull it right up for you.

She is truely a mega-ship. Was parked next to her last November when the Captiains were deciding whether or not to go over to Half Moon Cay. Niether the OOSTERDAM nor the VOLENDAM tendered over there that day as the seas were just too rough.

We are trying to book her now for the 2/26 sailing. Which SS would you recommend... 6th or 8th deck? Are all the SS (with the exception of the corner aft) in the mid section , overlooking the lifeboats?

DAKrewser should be getting on her right now ... or maybe he's already on!!! Maybe he's waving at us! And Laffnvegas is going to a restaurant to watch her sail away.:) So near and yet so far.

So near and yet so far.

A lot of life is like that, isn't it? Or so it always seems anyway :)

Hi, It is a beautiful day here in San Diego just the right temp. but a little hazy out. I just spent the day at the Zoo, did I ever get my walking in. Here is the web page to see the Oosterdam. http://live6.truelook.com/face/newface.jsp?func=0&name=/ecodb/sandiego/oneamerica2&pan=-101.48572&tilt=-12.994281&panfov=19.214195&tiltfov=14.976375&overlay=default&skin=default&useapplet=true&time=1079709536699&width=640&height=480&quality=60

We will leave here in a few minutes to go see her in person. As Heather said "So Close, Yet so Far:( It almost hurts to see her and know I can not go aboard. I am sure Dave has already enjoyed lunch in the Lido. (I had trail Mix at the Zoo) Not quite the same. Well, I think I will freshen up and head on down to the pier.

Thanks for the web page! We are so cold here in Reno, and you are enjoying the nice San Diego weather, wanna trade places? :) Does anyone know if Dave is going to communicate with us while on board, or will we have to wait for his return? October is so far away! :( It has been a long time since we have been to the S.D. zoo, but have fond memories of it.

Notice the tall sailing ship behind the Oosterdam. (Several tall ships in town this week .)

It is 7:00 PM Central Standard Time and here I am in all the snow and the
OOSTERDAM has let go of her lines and is backing away from the dock as I write. So close and yet so far, so wet and yet so warm where she is.

HIMSELF, if it makes you feel any better it was actually quite cold when the Oosterdam sailed away. I was wearing a jacket and was still very cold. It was almost damp. I took a lot of pictures of her. We were eating dinner at Anthony's while she sailed away. When I get home tomorrow I will upload the pictures and share them with everyone. I forgot to bring the cords along to do that now. It was too bad it was almost misty and not clear so I could of gotten better pictures of her father out to sea. It still was great seeing her but kind of sad to be so close and not be able to board. The part that brought a tear to our eyes was hearing the chimes before annoucements. We heard that several times and of course the ship's loud blast from the horn:D
It was almost like being on the ship.

I just put on the web-cam in San Diego and it sure looks nice. There is no ship in port to day but the weather looks inviting. We got a foot of snow Friday night and yesterday and the weater is currently 21 but the wind-chill makes is seem like it is 15 abouve zero. Wish I was in San Diego to complain about the cold.

Hi Lisa! Welcome home! We love Anthony's! Looking forward to seeing your pictures! It must be tough to be so close to a cruise ship and not be able to get on!

Hi Lisa!

What does the whistle sound like?
Is it a deep bass, or a wimpy 'toot'?

Could you post to this thread the moment you do? 3 of our party of 7 has never cruised before....I love enticing them all with info....they didn't log on in enough time to see her at port. Won't log off until I see her..... (pathetic)

Sea island lady

We were on Deck 6, in the narrow part of ship, more aft than forward. I thought being over the lifeboats would bother us, but it did not. The cabin was wonderful. We spent hours in there reading, eating, watching movies, etc. And the mattress! If I had one here, I'd probably never get up! :p I hope you enjoy your cruise on the O!

Sea Island Lady - There are a few pictures of an SS on the Oosterdam in my photo file on Yahoo. Gives a fairly good idea of what a midships SS is like. http://photos.yahoo.com/randyk_47 (http://photos.yahoo.com/randyk_47) I didn't think the lifeboats impacted us at all.
