Is anybody familiar with these two cabins on the promenade deck of the Princendam? The rest of the ss cabins are on another deck. These two face aft and on the deck plan of the HAL web site they are denoted with a private veranda area that connects to a public deck area. Very confusing.

On the thread titles, "Prinsendam 2005 World Tour... it has begun " Grumpy has given this information about the cabins you are asking about.
"Since there have been quite a few requests in the past for information about the aft cabins on Promenade Deck, your intrepid explorers have ventured into tha area to ascertain the facts. The center aft cabins, 198 and 199, have verandahs that are enclosed with smoked glass. You can see into them as you walk by, but it is somewhat dimmed by the smoked glass. The corner cabins, 196 and 197, have verandahs on the side of the ship with a steel wall separating the verandah from the aft deck area. the aft wall of the cabin is a floor to ceiling mirrored glass window. There are drapes to cover them from the inside and they were either completely drawn or the mirrored coating is quite effective as we could not see anything inside the cabins. We'll wander by sometime after dark and see what happens when the lights in the cabin are brighter than the light outside. Most mirrored glass becomes fairly transparent under those conditions. We hope Grumpy doesn't wind up in the brig accused of being a peeping Tom....There are ropes from the rails of the stairs to other railings so that you can't walk through that area, but if you walk down the stairs from the upper Promenade deck you are right there. The ropes keep you from continuing down to the lower Promenade deck, though, so it discourages people from using that route to move up or down between decks. The aft deck seems like a very large area to be "private" for a total of ten cabins. I think that some others do use the area, though."

Trvlnliz thanks for the update. From the description i wonder who would want them since there is limited privacy.

It's crazy but I can't find the post. Did they start a new thread? None of the posts today on page 4 are from Slinkie and Grumpie. Do you know what number it is?

"Prinsendam 2005 World Tour - It Has Begun" is the name of the thread Liz is referring to. As I write this it's maybe five or ten posts below this one. Grumpy's postings contain a lot of useful information about the ship itself (you may have to scroll thru a lot of posts responding to him and just search for those by him himself). It does have the information you're looking for.

lipopop: yes, privacy seems a misnomer for those verandahs. You might want to check out cabins 196 abd 197 on the same deck-at the moment they are Cat A's but I read that they will be changed to SS in the future. They offer about 34 sq ft more interior space than other Cat A cabins and a larger verandah, as well.
