We stopped off at the waterfront in Jersey City today and watched the NCL Dawn sail by followed by the Holland America Veendam. How exciting as we'll be on that ship 2 weeks from today.
Felt bad for their sailaway since it was raining. Looks like the dome over the pool was covered so all could enjoy.
Pulled out of pier at approx 4:45 pm today.
Wishing them all smooth seas and sunny days.

I wish. It was so windy on the waterfront. It was also drizzling while we were there but it began to rain as the Veendam was sailing by so we got under shelter. Either way it added to our excitment.
Water was choppy but didn't even make a dent in those size ships. It was the sailboats I was nervous for .
We love the smaller class ships and cannot wait to get on ourselves.

I was going over the Verrazano Bridge today on the Upper Level towards Brooklyn about 5:30 and could see the Veendam coming down thru the harbor.
And guess what? The rain and clouds were clearing and it looked like the rest of the sailaway was going to be OK.
Good news for the departing cruisers.

This gives me the idea to someday look up which DAM ships will be leaving out of NY/NJ and go watch someday. Not like I'm that far, it would be nice to see one sail away, though I'd rather be on it!

It's always nice to see but much better being onboard :)This gives me the idea to someday look up which DAM ships will be leaving out of NY/NJ and go watch someday. Not like I'm that far, it would be nice to see one sail away, though I'd rather be on it!

The only thing better than watching a sail away is to be on board during a sail away.

wonderful sailaway with all the things to see along the river, and i had to remember a silent private moment for all of our lost americans as we passed ground zero.

AMEN..
My Mother walked out of not only Sept. 11th but also the 1993 bombing of the WTC from the 66th floor both times... Amazing or what.. Not her time.
Hard to believe we're approaching the 10 year anniversary of this sad day.
