No, they're not absolutely required unless on a formal night. The PG Mngr might ask your husband to return to his cabin for a jacket on that night only, then again, he might not. You really won't know until the night you show up (if a formal night) On non-formal nights, you will see anything inside the PG in men's wear, from polo's, button-down shirts, to shirt + ties, to suits. Enjoy Alaska!

We went to Pinnacle on a "regular" nite and the couple at the table next to us were in shorts and t-shirts - the woman was barefoot for pete's sake! We arent into dressing up either but come on! We didnt go back for the entire cruise. This was on the Oosterdam BTW so I wouldnt worry they dont seem to push back on that sort of thing.

Yup, agreed, and that's up to the PG manager to enforce!

That's for sure. On the Statendam...a found the PG manager to be very sticky. He sent a guy back to the cabin at lunch to put on long pants. It's anyones guess if "da code" will be enforced.

I hope the Oosterdam's manager is a better one than we had - very dissapointing for us and they lost some business because of it.

That goes back to my remark on the other "formal dress thread". People need to realize that the dressing down might ruin others experience. It is not all about "ME". ". Unfortunately there are many that can't see beyond their own desires.

Please explain to me how does the way a person or persons dress ruin the experience for others? I can see smelly and dirty (and I do include the overly perfumed-folks, listen up some of us have intense reactions to your clinging perfumes-if you can smell it- you have WAY TOO MUCH ON!), but if a person is dressed clean and well fitting and not smelly, why would it matter what it looks like?
Please explain this to me. I really want to know.
Peace:)

Welcome to Cruise Critic.
On formal nights, the Pinnacle follows the same dress code as the main dining room. If you go there on a formal night your DH will need to wear either a jacket or a suit.
On the other nights -- smart casual -- my DH wears slacks and a golf shirt. The majority of the men dress that way.

Without setting off the fasihon police and the "dont be rude to your fellow passengers" Im thinking it would be fun on our Alaska cruise next year for the Aloha Shirts on casual days.

Georg Festrunk: We are.. two wild and crazy guys!
Yortuk Festrunk: Oh, no.. our bachelor pad certainly is messed around. Soon, will be the foxes. Where is the portable floor vacuum that we brought with us from Czechoslavakia?
Georg Festrunk: Wait here now, and you'll find out! This floor vacuum is such a wonderful household convenience that we've wanted for many years!
Yortuk Festrunk: Yes! Usually, in Czechoslavakia, only high party officials of the Communist Party can get them right away!

There are some questions that, if a person has to ask them, they would not understand the answer. Not meant in a mean spirited way---that's just the way it is.

ok, I will try. If the dress code is formal, then everyone comes dressed up. I have seen people in jeans and I find that disturbing. If long pants are required on casual nights, then no one should wear shorts. I personally find it disrespectful and insulting to the waiters and the other guests who have taken the time to dress appropriately. There are simple solutions if one does not want to follow the dress code - the Lido deck, dining in your state room or a cruise line that is more casual. It doesn't make sense to get on a ship where you know there are dress codes and disregard them. And yes, it is disturbing to other passengers. Not trying to turn this into a dress code thread or fashion police. Once can dress nicely without having to get carried away and still be comfortable. :)

I'm not so bothered by how they dress, but by the personalities! And they say HAL is a floating nursing home, but much to my surprise it's full of wild and crazy guys!

Only if you balance it out with TWO thumb rings!
