Also if you get to San Diego, Anthony's Fish Grotto is a wonderful place to eat. We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed watching the Oosterdam Sail Away. Although it was sad we were not sailing on her. But it was fun seeing her and hearing the Annoucement tones and the Horn:)

I also took lots of pictures at the San Diego Zoo that turned out well. I doubt I will get to it tonight but in the next few days I will upload those into Web Shots also.

How did it work out for you with the carryon bag, laptop and your purse? Any problems?

Sail, Thanks for asking.:) Actually it went quite well. I have a really nice Samsonite case for my Lap Top so I used that like a purse. But also brought a small bag with me so I did nto have to lug around the Lap Top Case. Maybe I have done so much travle lately but this trip went way to easy. I will say the line to go thru security in Las Vegas last Friday was the longest I had ever seen but it did move extremely fast. I would of never guess they could move that many people thru that quickly. I was wearing a pair of shoes that just a few weeks ago the TSA looked at and said "Don't worry those shoes are not a problem" So I walked thru and everything was OK. This past Friday I was wearing the same shoes and it set them off. The TSA was really nice he said,"I know it is your shoes just take them off", then something to the extent that he knew they normally would not set them off but security had been tightened. The handling of the Lap Top was not too much of a hassle so it did make for a Dry Run before I fly to FLL in March. Here in Las Vegas McCarren Airport now offers free WiFi so I got to try that out. San Diego airport was not free but you could pull up their airport website and fight out flight info for free. The hotel DH is staying at while working in San Diego is the Hampton Inn and they offer free WiFi in their lobby but it did also work in the room it said frequnecy was low but everything worked well and actually very fast. It was fun posting while out of town.

I just got off the phone with DH, it was sad to leave for the airport this morning. I will sure be glad when he can come back home. We are thinking it will still be another 8 days or maybe as long as 12 more days.:(

It was great weekend, weather was perfect and the extra bonus of seeing the Oosterdam was really nice.

Oh, Lisa, those were great! did you take those shots of the sailaway from the restaurant? What a fantastic spot!!! Loved seeing the pictures and felt like we were just on her ... yet it's been almost 3 months!

Do you think Dakrewser was up there waving at you? He absolutely must see these pics when he gets back. He'll get such a kick that you were watching from afar.

Jim, I agree looking at them can give a sever PANG, but it is even worse standing on the pier, seeing her, and listening to the annoucement chimes and not being able to board:( Now that was painful.

The pictures of her leaving were all from Anthony's Fish Grotto. We had a great table by the window and much warmer than being outside. Plus the food was great.:)

Lisa-

Great photos! Thank you so much for sharing them. :) I can't believe you were able to get so close on some of them! Glad to hear the trip went well and that you got to spend some time with your DH.

Too bad it was such a cool foggy day. Today it's nice and sunny and no cruise liners are at the pier.

laffnvegas - do you think it would be practical to stop by this Anthony's on our way to the airport? Our flight isn't until 2:40, so thought we could catch a nice lunch prior to the airport...but, are taxis in the area? Thanks!

Bfson
January 25th, 2005, 01:14 AM
It's about a two minute walk (even at slow speed) from the cruise pier to Anthony's.(Turn left as you leave the cruise pier) When the cruise ships are in, the cabs swarm the area like bees. From Anthony's to the airport is maybe 4 or 5 minutes, depending on the traffic lights.

I am interested in Anthony's also. What to do with luggage...especially if we walk?

My Guess they don't have problem with you dragging them in to the restaurant. Our waitress was telling us about a couple that had just gotten off the Oosterdam when it arrived and had lunch there because they had a late flight and then grabbed a taxi to the airport. Like Bfson said Anthony's is so close you would think it was part the cruise ship terminal.

Our problem is we would have my parents with us and dragging the luggage is not an option. I guess we could hire a taxi and drive around the corner. :D

Sea Island Lady, the picture that I posted above of the ship, well just about 100 yards to the right is Anthony's. Unless you hired a taxi driver to just carry the luggage there is no way to drive that close. The metered angled parking in front is always full.

Sea Island Lady and AmyinVail. I noticed while looking at the web cam of the Oosterdam in San Diego that you probably were confused why we kept saying that Anhtony's Fish Grotto was so close. Here is the ling to the web cam, if the Holdiday Inn burilding was not there you would see Anthony's. The Hotel tower just to the right of the ship is totally blocking view of Anthony's. It really is very close.

that is close. Did you head out to see the Oosterdam come back in? I'm so excited to hear from dakrewser to see how everything went this last week- he teased us with his "check in" last night......

No, I am sitting here at work in Las Vegas today just watching her on the web cam. Unfortunately my DH has to stay working in San Diego for another 10 days but his company has voluntered to buy me a plane ticket to go back down to San Diego for next weekend. It is too far to drive for a quickie weekend and I only get everyother weekend off. I use to get only 1 weekend off a month, we are trying a new schedule for 2005 for here at work. With any luck maybe I could try to meet up with Revneal and VictheParrot. I wish there was someone from HAL that could get me a day pass just to visit for a few hours with Capt. Mercer and crew and with a little lunch in the Lido. That would be great.:D

Funnily enough, DW and I were up in the Crow's Nest, warchhing Anthony's "pull away" from us while monitoring the webcam with my laptop. It's odd to watch the ship pull out knowing that you're on it!

I see what you mean now. :)

We decided to book an earlier flight, so Anthony's may not be in the picture for use unless we head over the night prior. Having a hard time on deciding which hotel.
