Hi!
We just booked SS cabin #6100 on the Oosterdam-- do these cabins receive the suite amenities, including the hors d'ouvres, etc.? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, how is this room location? Thanks!

SS Suites do not get any of the amenities of an S suite, except the personalized stationary.

SS cabins regardless of what the name implies are not suites in the sense HAL uses the word and do not get suite perks. Nonetheless they're are great cabins. We had SS 6060 on the Oosterdam and it was a wonderful cabin. On a 7 day cruise we really didn't notice not having a suite which we had on our two 10 day cruises. I've attached a link to my some pictures from our cruise: http://photos.yahoo.com/randyk_47 (http://photos.yahoo.com/randyk_47) These are basically my raw digital files that my wife uses to build our webpage: www.geocities.com/theklugspage/ (http://www.geocities.com/theklugspage/)

This is what I have found about the SS.
Superior Verandah Suitehttp://www.cruisesonly.com/images_unique/blank.gifhttp://www.cruisesonly.com/images_unique/blank.gifDeck: Navigation, Upper Verandah, Verandah Superior Verandah Suites SS offer two lower beds that convert to a queen-sized bed, a private verandah, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sitting area with sofa bed for one, private bathroom with shower and full-sized whirlpool tub, additional shower stall, dual sink vanity, DVD player, television, minisafe, telephone, multichannel music, and a hairdryer. Enjoy additional suite amenities including complimentary bathrobes, personalized stationary, feather pillows, fresh fruit, and a video library. Approximately 294-sq.-ft. suite with 98-sq.-ft. verandah.

That's probably a pretty good description though obviously HAL's verbage. The cabin truly is wonderful as is the bathroom. The separate shower was a bit of a disappointment as it's about the size of a phone booth and after trying it once each we switched to showering in the tub. The dual vanity is great though! Fresh fruit? Well....kind of....the first day but only 3 or 4 pieces and it didn't get refilled or replaced the rest of our cruise. The apples were getting pretty tired by the end of the week. :) I don't recall anything about the video library but we don't stay in our cabin much on a cruise so we'd have little interest in watching a movie and never checked it out.

Mindy,
We had 6105 on the O, and loved every minute of it.! There is an extensive video library at the front desk. (You will have to make a $25.00/DVD deposit) The DVD player also plays CDs, so we brought some of our own. The couch is a great place to relax. The balcony is much, much larger than a veranda cabin. It has a table with two chairs, two armchairs with footstools, and a little cocktail table. The whirlpool is great, we used it almost every day.
We just asked our steward for fruit refills, no problem for the bananas we wanted everyday!
I think these rooms are a great buy, especially as we enjoy our balcony and don't really participate in any of the shows or other ship activities.
Enjoy your cruise!

Does the Oosterdam have the high beds with the pillow top like this photo of the Westerdam SS?

This must be the new Signature of Excellence look. They didn't have it on the Oosterdam in March but that was just before the Odam went through the SOE upgrades. I've heard/seen here that the new beds are great. :)

Does that mean that the new beds are now on the Oosterdam? :)

I'm pretty sure that has been discussed, and the answer was YES -- those new matresses are on the O.
Just not in the handicapped-accessible rooms.:(

We've booked an Osterdam SS cabin for October. I've just noticed in some of the posted photos & also after looking at the cabin diagrams again, that if the 2 beds are put together, one side of the bed is against the cabin wall...is this true? Makes it kind of hard to get up at night, if so. Thanks for any input.

I know the artist's drawing looks a little like the bed is up against the bathroom wall but it isn't. There's sufficient room to get in and out of the bed on both sides without climbing over your sleeping partner. :)

That's right! The width is usually that of an end table (about 16".)
Question: Are there any amenities included in the SS bathroom? Shampoo, etc.?

Yes. There are little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, etc. Didn't pay much attention or use any of it as we carry our own stuff but it was there.

Thanks for the info about the beds, Randy & Sea Island Lady! Seemed strange that in such a big cabin they couldn't spare a couple of inches to get out of bed! Been in outsides and 1 verandah (the wished-for upgrade!) and always had space on both sides.
