We just booked a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Eurodam for March 2011. Me, my husband, and two kids (ages 5 and 9) are super excited about the ship and itinerary. Since this is our first cruise on HAL, can anyone give us their review, positive and/or negative, about the Eurodam? Thanks!!!

It would help if we knew what you want in a cruise and what cruiselines you've previously sailed.
We were on the Eurodam for 14 days last fall. We really liked the ship except that we prefer the smaller HAL ships. I'd choose it again if the itinerary was one we especially wanted.

It's honestly one of my least-favorite HAL ships - mostly because it's so crowded...
...some Carnival ships actually have more space per-passenger than Eurodam. The ship also has fewer mini-suites than the Vistas and smaller aft balconies.

I also dislike most of the public spaces - again, due to the crowding (Dining Room, Lido Deck, Show Lounge) uncomfortable seating (Show Lounge, Wine Bar, Northern Lights) and cheap/bizarre decor (Atrium, Show Lounge, MDR, Thassolotherapy Pool Faux-Skylight, Lido Cabanas) I also can't stand the bathrooms with their lack of enclosed storage and oddly-placed electrical outlets in the ceiling.

The Tamarind Restaurant is a nice addition - but it's not enough to make me book that ship again. I'll stick to older/smaller ships with more space per passenger, fewer gimmicks and more traditional decor.

We loved our cruise on the Eurodam in October of 2009. The Tamarind is wonderful and the Retreat Cabana we booked for the week was the best money we've ever spent on a cruise. I don't like the pool-side cabanas. I think they make the area around the pool feel very crowded. Overall we loved our cruise and would book again. Likes:

- Captain Darrin and Cruise Director Jason
- Tamarind for lunch and dinner
- Silk Den Lounge
- Gym
- Lido 'stations' instead of one long line
- Cleanliness and newness of everything

Dislikes:

- Cabana's by the Lido Pool (they make it too small and block about one third of the window viewing)
- Lack of public decks. A downside of more veranda's
- The 'nipple' art in the atrium - just garish!
- Showtimes. Late seating show should be after dinner not before.

I would go on this ship again in a moment even though I generally prefer the smaller R and S class ships.

I had no problems at all with the Eurodam. Our Aft balcony was great, crew was fantastic, food was good and overall a wonderful time. I am sure you can get picky about things, but when you look at it in total.... it is a great ship. We would sail again in a heartbeat.

We also really liked it, nothing bad I can think of. The area around the Lido pool feels a bit crowded, but there are plenty of other spots to sit.

The Silk Den was my favourite spot.

I totally agree with this. To have shelves in a bathroom on a moving ship, instead of a cabinet that at least encloses when things go flying, was a stupid decision on someone's part.
And then to put the electrical outlet at ceiling level??? Even if I can find someone tall enough to plug in my toothbrush, it just hangs there! Same person make this stupid decision?

I wonder how much money was saved doing it this way. Not worth it, that's for sure.

I do find the Lido cabanas somewhat unsightly.

Lesinindy,

So glad you enjoyed the Eurodam. We have an aft balcony on the Eurodam in March and was wondering what it was like in the aft? We have sailed NCL and RCCL and have decided to jump ship to HAL.;) We are looking for a more mature cruise, due to the amount of college break kids we have seen in March out of NYC. Don't get me wrong, we have enjoyed our experiences, but think a change may be due. We like dressing for dinner and have found that has changed a lot with the more freestyle or anytime dining on NCL and RCCL and look forward to the dining experience on HAL. What was your opinion as to dining and poolside experiences?

Thank you,

Ann and Bernie

How could you forget?

Remember when we asked one of the Bartenders in the Ocean Bar what he thought of it? After he replied that the staff thought it looked like a bunch of jellyfish and we told him what we thought it looked like how he exploded into a laughing fit and ran to tell his co-workers...???

The pool was laid back and the dining was elegant and unfortunately very filling. I love the aft cabins and will get one every chance I get. We made friends for the whole cruise from the folks around our table and enjoyed our extended company very much. There is much to like about a cruise that is a little more quiet and much less rushed. You will find that the view from the aft cabins are great, the wake has a hypnotic quality and the open space you view will make you feel like you are on the ship all by yourself.

We had a few dislikes as mentioned above, but overall were very impressed with the Eurodam last fall. We were onboard for 2wks and really loved every minute of it.

I had to reach over and touch the surface because I kept thinking it would at least be murano glass but no - some sort of plastic. Just made it worse.....
(And when it glows pink with the tip on the end c'mon - you know EXACTLY what it looks like....)

Dislikes: too crowded especially buffet and Explorations cafe; noisy afternoon entertainment in the Explorations cafe, retreat cabanas are unsightly, weird menu choices and lack of variety in food, Pinnacle Restaurant, poor choice of merchandise in shop

Likes teak deck, lots of outdoor deck chairs, comfortable cabins, lots of storage space, lots of activities, high tea, buffet, good service, photographers don't pester you

Just booked for June on Eurodam after 12 days on Nieuw Amsterdam. It was heaven and I look forward to Heaven part deux. Granted having a Deluxe Veranda Suite makes a difference...you have the Neptune Lounge, never have to go near the front desk, get preferential tender passes, free laundry and lots of other perks (which yes, you do pay for argueably). And the rooms are very large with very large balconies. So it is a different experience.

I agree about the cabanas by the pool, just silly in my opinion and does block the view. Yes, the Lido gets crowded, but it does on all ships at lunch. The food has improved over the years in Lido in our opinion. The showrooms are much improved with individual seats and a slope in the room....no more divans which were all on the same level so you couldn't see. These changes do come about at a cost of intimacy, I agree.

But having made the mistake of going on a Crown Princess cruise, even in a suite, there is absolutely no comparison. THAT I regret.

We just booked a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Eurodam for March 2011.

We love the Eurodam! :)

Just got off our last 10 day cruise last week. We did almost the same cruise last year only it was 14 day. We even had the same SA Deluxe Verandah Suite 7050. One day at sea we were in hurricane force winds of 85 mph and 25 ft seas. That was quite an experience, we enjoyed it. The Captain didn't plan that for we stayed an extra night in port to miss the winds. He wasn't at fault, his weather forecast were incorrect.

We had a reserved table for two during early dining but one night we enjoyed the Pinnacle Grill. It was a great meal!

No problems... excellent ship, service and food!

Hope you and family enjoy the Eurodam as much as we did both times. :)
