When we did the Baltic with Regent in 2009 each cabin received a directory with passenger's names and home towns. This was a very helpful aid in remembering the names of people we were meeting. Additionally we were able to discover that we had people we knew on board and people that lived very close to us also on board.

When we did the Med this past June we were disappointed to find that there was no such directory for this cruise. We have booked another cruise with Regent next May and are hoping that they are again doing the directory. Can anyone give us any feedback on this issue?

On a Regent cruise this summer, I also noticed the absence of the passenger directory. I did not miss it greatly -- though it was a nice touch. I suppose this is another Regent cut-back.

They did one on our 14-day last December, the final segment of the Discovery Collection. But it wasn't printed until quite late in the cruise, so it was of limited usefulness. Perhaps they don't do them on 7-day cruises any more?

In the beginning of the WC this year, a passenger list was given to the full world cruisers but they were not printed after that for the different segments. From what I was told, the powers that be decided because of privacy issues, they would not do passengers lists on future cruises. I hope that will change but who knows.

I was also told that they stopped doing this because of privacy issues. Probably one person complained, so it ruins it for everyone else. I always enjoyed seeing where the other passengers were from and finding anyone else from Oklahoma.

I thought if you had a privacy issue, you could opt out prior to its publishing??

I only received this directory during our first Radisson/ Regent cruise, on Navigator in 2000. At the time I was surprised they published and distributed this without the prior consent of the passengers. Nobody asked us if we wanted to opt out. Not everybody might be so thrilled to have their name plastered on a ship's passenger manifesto with wide distribution.

We signed a release form when we were registering -- at least I remember doing that on our last cruise. They even asked how you would like your name listed (if it was different than how you are registered with Regent). In the excitement of boarding, it's easy to forget what you signed.

Maybe the privacy issue has more to do marketing and mailing lists. I'm sure competitors of Regent in the luxury cruise niche would love lists of Regent passengers and their addresses. I receive regular mailings from Seabourn and Silversea, even though I've never sailed with either.

I remember doing this too in the past, but when I asked on our last cruise about a directory, they said that they didn't make one up anymore due to "privacy issues". My sons liked the directory when they were younger as it said Master . . . They thought that was cool.

On our recent 19 Aug-5 Sept B2B cruise on Mariner, there was no directory. Another cost savings for Regent.

We were given a passenger directory near the end of our 16 night Ft Lauderdale to San Diego Pansma Canal cruise on Voyager over this past New Year.

I must admit it's never been particularly helpful to me. Am I remembering correctly that they don't include cabin number? I.e., if you can match names with faces, you need to phone the switchboard and ask for that person to get in touch with them?

As to the issue of cost savings, I could easily do with one less mailing of upcoming cruises which would easily off set the cost of a directory. And allowing people to opt out would solve the other issue.
