Saw this update via Regent's Facebook page this morning and checked the FAQ's on their website. Looks like if during the course of your cruise you move from one level to the next, you get all the benefits of the higher level from the start of the cruise.
Q: If I become eligible for a higher benefit tier while I'm onboard, when can I take advantage of the additional benefits?
A: Effective September 15, 2010, your new tier benefits take effect on the first day of the cruise during which you transistion from one tier to the next.

OMG EZ! You just saved me $400. I am in the Hilton Achorage right now waiting for a bus to the Navigator in Seward for an 18 day leg, and today is Sep 15, 2010. Since I've cruised on Regent before, that means I'm in the next tier at once. I did verify what you said on the Regent website. If the crew doesn't know yet, I'll spread the word. I'm glad I brought the laptop and coughed up $12.95 for a day of Hilton internet access. Jim
P.S. I already met Rallydave and bought him a drink for the good info he's posted here.

That's nice for the folks who are approaching Silver. Approaching Gold it doesn't mean much, which is good, since we transitted to Gold quietly during our last cruise.

We currently are in the "bronze" level with 7 nights. During our Dubai to Cape Town cruise in November (which is really a back to back with Dubai to Mahe and Mahe to Cape Town booked as one cruise) which lasts 25 days, are you telling me that we are eligible for free internet when we board in Dubai? If so, you've made my husband a very happy man! We usually spend hundreds on internet service and this will be such a nice benefit. I had asked my agent a long time ago about this and Regent had a different answer than the one now posted.
Please let me be correct in my assumption here!!!

I guess the question is whether they treat your two segments as one cruise, and how long the first segment is. So if you turn Silver on the first segment, no problem, but if the second leg is treated separately, perhaps not until then.

And another case which affects my friend Jim. He has 14 nights, and will be doing a 7-night with us in December. So his 21st night is his last on board--will he get Silver when he boards?

Marcy just called on our behalf to Regent and this is true and we'll get credit for being "silver" when we board! Free internet is so appreciated! We're doing the little "happy dance" right now! Thanks EZ99B5 for letting us know about this incredible bit of good fortune.
Happy cruising to you all.

I am glad to see they have made this official. On our Alaska trip this past summer on the Navigator, we boarded and were surprised to see in our cabin the letter telling us we now had silver status and had free internet. We were shy 2 days of silver after our Auckland to Los Angeles crossing last year. We thought it was just a nice gesture but when I asked someone at the reception desk they told me they knew we would jump to silver within a couple of days of sailing so they just went ahead and gave us the status from the get go. We thought that was really nice. I am glad this is now a policy. Makes more sense to me.

I'm doing the happy dance as well. I was prepared after four days in our upcoming Monte Carlo to Athens cruise on the 23rd to plead, beg, or do whatever it took to upgrade us to the next level. Now it appears that won't be necessary.
Thanks so much for posting this. We leave in SIX days!!!!

Thanks so much for posting this thread. It appears that we will transition from Gold to Silver on our upcoming March 2011 cruise. Was concerned about internet costs during 5 days at sea so having free internet access is a real bonus.

Wow, what a nice surprise - we hit silver on the last day of our upcoming Baltic cruise and to have free internet from the get go is a very nice thing.

Anyone think they'll add more computers for the infux of happy Silver members?
(I don't.)

I agree! But, you can now take your laptops, netbooks, etc. and use them in your suite at no charge. Wish this was in effect when we started with Regent. It took three cruises before we were "Silver".

I doubt it, but then I've rarely had a problem finding a computer, when I didn't have a laptop. I was Silver for a long time before I actually got around to logging in while on vacation (comes from being a computer professional for so long, couldn't stand to be connected while away!)

I bow to you Wendy..... I'm on the computer constantly as well, but I can't bear to be "disconnected" for long. In fact, I was in Canada recently and inadvertently forgot my laptop -- it was the longest 4 days of my life!!! :p
