Leaving in 4 weeks (2/26 - 3/5). Although it is winter here in the states, what type of clothes should I take for the Mexican Riviera?
We leave out of San Diego. What should I expect the weather to be like and what type of clothes will I need for sailaway?

Will it be warm enough on the first and last sea days, to lay out around the pool? How about the rest of the vacation...can I just wear the summery clothes that I usually take to the Caribbean? Bright colors, Capri's, shorts, sandals, light weight jackets and sweaters, and of course my informal and formal wear for the evening? Being a veteran cruiser, I am familiar with the dress codes, so I know when to wear what...just don't know what season of clothes that I should take.

I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb when everyone else is in winter dress.

The following is an itinerary:

We were there in Dec and it was very nice. Cool in SD (light jacket) but short sleeve the rest of the time.
I would use the above website to plan my clothing just before you leave. You can get the weather forecast for all your ports and know better what to expect.

You've chosen a nice itinerary.
Once you get to Cabo San Lucas, you will be in the tropics. Your usual Caribbean clothes should be fine, although it may feel somewhat cooler because the humidity is less and there is usually a sea breeze.

Regardless of the weather report in San Diego, the first and last days near San Diego will feel cool, at least while you are out at sea. This is because the sea temperature is only in the 50s or 60s, rather than the warmer Caribbean, so there is no way it can feel really warm at that latitude at that time of year. And the wind out on deck will feel either cool or cold. I would take a pair or two of long pants, socks and a sweater or sweatshirt--something to snuggle in if you get chilly. A light rain jacket is a necessity, although there is a good chance you wouldn't have to use it.

I was hoping that the weather would be a little warmer...especially on sea days (our favorites.)

We did this cruise last February. The weather was always on the chilly side. I don't think I put on shorts once the whole trip. Mostly stuck with capris. I would highly recommend a windbreaker or light jacket as well. We did not think to bring one, and ended up having to purchase one on the ship.

As far as "laying around the pool" we only did this once or twice and I usually had towels wrapped around me the whole time. Did not get my usual Caribbean tan that trip.

Hope you enjoy your cruise! We loved this itinerary and would do it again.

I live in Southern California and must testify that our weather has been nuts this winter. We've gone from nonstop rain for days, to cold weather to the point of having to scrap ice of the car windshield before leaving for work, to 80s for about a week, now it's back to being damp and colder. So my point (in case you were wondering how this relates to Mexico) is that the Mexican Riviera usually follows our weather pattern, to a certain degree. Whatever weather front we get, they do as well. So be prepared for at least 3 weather changes - rain, cold, warm. You will probably experience it all on your cruise! Happy Sailing!

I live in San Diego and have done the Mexico cruise many times in different times of the year. In March, the weather in San Diego is usually foggy and cool. It could rain. Expect the sailaway temperature to be in the 60's so wear a sweater or light jacket (60's may seem warm if you are coming from cold climes). The cruise down the Baja Peninsula will be cool and can be foggy too. I wear sweats to do the deck walk in the am and then wear casual clothes inside. It will be too cool for the balcony. The second day off the coast of Cabo will be much nicer. Cabo should be nice and in the 70-80. It is 90-100 later in the year so this is a nice time. The water will be warm enough to swim but still a bit cool. Mazatlan and Puerto will be warmer and more humid. I have been in Mazatlan in December and it was only in the 60's but it should be in the 80's late Feb, early March. If you are going further south, it gets warmer and warmer. The "monsoon" season is usually in the late summer/fall, but there has been some crazy weather this year and rain down in Baja.
