View Full Version : Photographing your packing!

Having spent all morning today deciding what to take on the Eurodam in a couple of weeks, I had an idea. I've taken little snapshots on my phone of all the clothes I've decided on.

Why? - you might ask ;)

*I can show my mum (aka cruise companion) tomorrow without taking all the stuff round there, and we can compare what we are taking

*It helps me to remember for when I'm packing - better than a confusing list

*When it doesn't all fit in my suitcase ...you know that's going to happen right? ... I can look at the pics and decide what to leave out.

*If anything goes missing in the ships laundry I have a picture to hand to show them the missing item

I hope not everyone thinks I'm totally crazy!

You imply that there is something wrong in being crazy. I OBJECT! :)

Some folks are visual and some are verbal (and some are other flavours). A list works best for -- I would find photos less than helpful. If photos work for you then congratulations on finding a solution.

I just take my packing list with -- indicated what items go into each suitcase.

But because of laundry problems -- I do take pictures of the important stuff we send out.

I like it! What a great idea to use if gasp... your luggage is lost.

Each trip, before we head to the airport, I take pictures of our luggage with our digital camera. Since we've had to deal with the 'lost' luggage department in the past, we've leaned it would have been SO much easier with a picture than trying to describe our luggage. Also, I haven't forgotten to take the camera with us either since doing this.

I'm a 'lister'. As things go in our suitcases, I put them on a list that comes with us.

If suitcases get lost, I know what is in each.

I make a packing list too - but I think the photo idea is a good one. I know what my "chiffon evening pants and black/gold/silver jacket and tank" look like but would someone else (in the case of lost luggage, etc.) recognize it from that description. I may try that on our next trip. I always take a couple of shots of our bags before we go so the pics are on my camera.

Just a little off subject. On a piece of paper I write our ship name, cabin # and the sail dates and snap a photo of it. Maybe someone will take pity on me and look us up if I leave it somewhere on ship to return it, maybe....?

The camera, I'm talking about.

I have a small stickie on my camera that gives my name and cabin number. I once lost a camera on a ship and I always wondered if I had my name on it if someone would have tried to return it to me. It wasn't valuable but the photos were very valuable to me. ;)

Good point, nothing wrong it a bit of crazyness!

Noooo, please don't say that. Mum's case didn't arrive with us in Rio on our 3 week South American cruise. However luckily it came the next day, before we sailed.

My problem with lists is I write something like 'navy-blue t-shirt' then forget which one of my 4 navy t-shirts I decided to take!!
These pics are on my phone, so I'll have them with me.

I don't think it's crazy at all, these days. You never know what will become of your luggage. I've had two bags I gave to the airlines together arrive on different planes! If I am taking two bags, I try to pack things in "outfits", so if one bag goes missing, I'm not stuck wearing a striped shirt with a plaid skirt, or having a swimsuit coverup with no swimsuit... I also try to split up the clothing so I have some casual and some formal in each. I might get sick of wearing what's in my carryon, but I'll look proper!:D

I also make a packing list, but never thought of taking pictures. What a great idea. TFS!!

Just make a list. Keep referring to it every time you cruise.

That is a great idea - something pictured is more believable than writing on a list if you have to make a claim.

We pulled into Dallas/FtWorth on AA but had to wait for our gate - I saw a baggage handler unloading another plane and this man threw the cases 6 feet onto his cart - 3 cases were examined and then dropped onto the tarmac from chest height - where they bounced and lay there while the handler and cart trundled away - felt really sorry for the owner of those cases - bet they never go them.

I have computer lists for what goes into each suitcase -- have one for 14 day cruises, one for 20 day cruises, and one for longer cruises.

When we are 2 days from leaving for the airport hotel -- I run off the lists -- get the plastic bags out -- each of us pack what I have indicated -- into those plastic bags -- and then they go into the suitcases. We have 4 suitcases and 2 carry-ons packed within 45 minutes. Of course the lists go with us.

These are all great ideas - I love the pictures. Having them on your phone would be even more useful as they could quickly be viewed in the worst case [lost luggage.]

And a list that gets me packed in 45 minutes?????? That sounds like a worthy goal to me!

I don't think it's crazy ..I think it's ingenious :)

But ...they do say there is a fine line between crazy and genius :D

Have a wonderful cruise.:)
