I am taking my first cruise this summer. Do you purchase the cruise companies travel insurance or another provider? Thanks

I would definitely go with other than the ship's insurance. Visit www.insuremytrip.com (http://www.insuremytrip.com/) and you can enter your travel info and see the coverages and costs from several companies side by side. I believe you will have better coverage/protection from Travelex, AccessAmerica, or one of the other companies shown on the site ... and it will cost you less than what the cruise line offers.
One thing to keep in mind is that if there is some pre-existing condition that could prevent you from going, then you will need to purchase the coverage within 14-21 days of placing your initial deposit on the cruise. Each policy will spell out what their purchase requirements are.

I just got quotes from my TA and she suggested either travelex or CSA. Travelex was about $50 less for two persons, including air and pre-e conditions..

We do not buy the cruise line's insurance. We always buy a third party policy. We have been buying Access America for several years. Had to use it once - we were happy with the results.
