I've booked the stateroom VD 4164 for our upcoming southern Caribbean cruise on the Zuiderdam in March 2011. I chose it based on what I had read here :).

If by chance we are offered an upgrade or an upsell, I would like to know in advance whether we should consider it? I already told HAL that we don't want to be automatically upgraded, just in case it would be to a lesser cabin.

But what, if any, would be considered a good choice to leave #4164 behind?;)

Upgrade to a lesser cabin????

There is around 900 cabins on the ship. That is a long list of cabins that could be better;).

By lesser cabin I mean a higher rated one, ie. VB or VC, but one with a smaller balcony or a poorer location.

I know what you mean Canadarocks. We have had 2 free "upgrades" where the new cabin was in a noisier part of the ship. Never again!

I'm curious now. I may have to search out this cabin while I'm aboard in November and see what that balcony looks like.

If it is an upsell to a suite (SZ or better) or an aft VA, then I would think about it -- price being the determining factor

Personally I love 4164 and 4166 on the Z -- but woudl trade it in a heartbeat for 4180 :)

Ooooooh.... I just checked 4180 and I agree that it would definitely be awesome! :D

Any of those stern facing cabins are awesome and the VBs or VAs wouldn't be that much of an upgrade for you.:) VB4178 or 4183 and VAs 4174-76-79 or 81. But those aft corner suites ARE awesome:D!

4164 is a double balcony...when we were on the Zuiderdam in 2006 it had two lounge chairs plus the normal furniture you get with a balcony. We got upgraded to that cabin once had no idea what it was until we walked out on the balcony. I agree with the others I would only give it up for an aft balcony or a suite.

I have 4166 on the Eurodam in 8 weeks... and this is my plan too...
I will only take an upgrade or upsell if it's for an aft cabin (any category) or an SA - all for the right price too, of course.

We had VD4166 on the Noordam for 20 days in September in the Mediterranean. What's not to like about this balcony! :D

Thanks for sharing the photo beckntom! We've booked one of these rooms for our Alaska cruise next Spring.

I can just see us now watching the beautiful Alaska scenery from our comfy lounge chairs on the balcony! :)

This will be our first HAL cruise and I'm really excited!

You're welcome, Jenn. It was our first HAL cruise, too, and we loved it. I'm sure you will, too!

And thanks from me too! After seeing the photo I booked 4166 for our 22-nighter in April 2012... 4164 was already taken even this far ahead!

I thought, 22 nights through the Caribbean and Panama, up to Vancouver... how nice to have a much larger balcony in the same category we booked.:)

I'm so glad the picture was helpful! When I booked that cabin, it was someone else's picture that motivated me to do so. I'm glad I could pass on the favor!
