I have heard rumors of being able to sunbathe topless or nude:cool: ?

Can you really do this on a cruise ship? We are going on the Sovereign of the Seas May 9, and I was just curious.

I would not think you could because of the children on board but then again;) !

I dont' think RCCL has any topless decks. I think that's Carnival. Anyone else want to chime in?

I would highly encourage it.

However, you'll not see it on RCCL.

Carnival has a topless area (not nude) up by the funnel. Children do not have access.

RCCL only allows it on European cruises. Carnival has a topless area on all of its cruises. Nude is never allowed.

My wife and I have been on three cruises. Two on Norwegian and one on Royal Caribbean. Only on RCCL did they have a deck for sunbathing. I have heard that sunbathing is allowed in the Carribbean but I haven't checked that one out yet. The beaches along the French Riviera do live up to their reputation. In Europe its no big deal. I guess you just don't take the kids to the beach? Been there, loved it. Tim and Cathy

If you go to St. Martin just head to Orient Beach and you'll see things you wish you had closed your eyes.

Lots of places have topless sunbathing. Punta Cana, Cancun, Key West just to name a few...Actually Key West has totally nude spots. Not a big deal unless you make it a big deal....

On the Voyager class ships, there is a small stairway leading to a deck called "St. Tropez", up in front past the Solarium. It can be easily missed as the sign is small, but I've seen topless sunbathing there and I've been on Voyager class ships in the Caribbean. Part of the deck is covered, and it cannot be seen from anywhere else on the ship (at least not the passenger areas :D )

Cheers,
Esther

Hidden decks or not, RCCL prohibits topless sun bathing in the Caribbean per their policy book in the stateroom. It is permitted on RCCL in Europe. Now, where were those hidden decks?

...was with a couple I was traveling with. Some nice views, some not so nice, but it's not a big deal. They even have drink service. Not all women who sunbathe there choose to be sans top, but on a sea day it's the only place not crowded and it's rather intimate. No kids and no cameras allowed. Only downside is the huge funnel has a rather loud, low rumble.

No sanctioned women topless sun bathing on RCI (except Europe).

I saw full nudity on the Carnival ship docked next to ours in Nassau Sunday. Eventually they closed their curtains and I put my binoculars away.

Agree with Byron...made me chuckle. I bet a lot of that goes on in ports like that, BamaVol just owned up to it.

Anyway, the Celebrity Millinneum has a top, top deck posted for topless sunbathing, but the sister Summitt did not have the same sign. This was in '03.

I kept my top on and lounged on the next to the top deck (to spare my fellow pax), and got a kick out of watching all the streatched necks on the men who for some reason, found it a good place to take their strolls.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's scary that someone named "Wolfman" would be asking this? ;)

Very scary. I am imagining that we all might want "Wolfman" to wear a shirt if his nickname is due to his hirsute status!!;)

Another reason not to sail on Carnival.....

Carnival has secluded top decks where you can sunbathe topless. RCI doesn't have such provisions or a special deck for that.

Luckily I got the nickname because of my love for wolves and the five wolf tattoos I have:eek: !

I have to say this was one of the most amusing threads that I have read. Some really tallented comic posing as cruise lovers. It is a good day when you can laugh outloud with a friend. Thanks for the laughs.:)

Picture this....Beautiful November day last year. Im on a cruise to the Caribbean on Radiance. Its now sailaway time. My cousin and me go to the top deck to wave farewell to FLL. we wave and wave and wave till our arms were tired. Across from us was a much smaller poss European type cruise ship. And there I see a nice couple in their luxurious robes on their balcony. They wave and wave and get ours and others around us' attention. We wave, I point to them and realize hes pointing back.......without his finger :D I make sure my cousin is still aware of the couple so he looks....by now they are both flashing like a flasher in a trench coat. The whole deck on that side of the ship was cracking up. Some people were a little p'o'ed but oh well the rest of us enjoyed it

Whew-that's a relief. I was afraid the filters and drains in the pool would get clogged.

On one of our last two Celebrity cruises I was curious about where some steps led on maybe deck 11 or 12. I went up and found a topless sunning area. This was on either the Constellation in the Baltics or the Horizon in Bermuda. The trips were less than two months apart, so I'm not sure which it was. I casually sauntered across the area to go down the other side. During that time, people gave me over a hundred dollars if I would agree not to go topless. When I got back down to the previous deck, I did notice a small sign saying "Adults Only".
My wife and I spent a week at St. Barths two years ago, and being a French island, toplessness and nudity were very common on all the beaches and even at the resort pools. By about the second or third day, though, it's become a ho-hum affair and, if anything, you wish selected people would put their clothes back on. We also used to go to Key West almost every year for a week and there was also topless sunbathing there. One year, at Key West's "Fantasy Fest", which is their version of Mardi Gras and takes place at Halloween, there was no part of the human anatomy, male or female, shaved or unshaved, that we did not see on the street. That was definitely an eye-opener.
It's all relative. Just try to have an open mind and realize that different cultures view many things entirely differently from how we perceive them. Live and let live, and try not to get bent out of shape by diversity.
