Hi,

I booked a VE cabin on the Nieuw Amsterdam, as I thought it would be a good price for a nice cabin with a balcony.

I am just wondering, what causes the big price difference with the other V?-type cabins (V to VD class)? This can be a difference of hundreds of dollars on a 2-person basis.

Is it the deck level? I see we're lower so the view must not be as nice. Also I noticed that one deck lower there are life-boats, will these in anyway obstruct the view?

Any other considerations why there is this price difference?

Thanks,
Vincent

It is usually the location of the stateroom. For example a stateroom mid ship will be classified as a higher category than one, usually at the near front (fore) or near rear (aft) of the ship. Reason, I believe, is less likely to become sea sick.

(just a side note: I underlined a couple of my comments in case anyone thinks I am being definitive about my amswers. I am not 100% positive on my answers, so ....)

A VE cabin has the life boats immediately below your balcony. That is, if you look straight down, you will see the life boat. But if you look "outward" you see the water. VE cabins are very close to mid-ship but without the midship price.

We think they are great value and the lifeboats don't bother us at all.

Just a short jump to have premium life boat seats! Shouldn't they charge us more for that? :D

Also a great hiding place for your smuggled booze ;)
