After two cruises this year.... the last one being just about the best ever (everything was good, including the weather and in Alaska yet:D), I have no booked cruise to look forward to:(:(. And can't commit to anything yet because we need a new roof on the house. Damn! For the first time in a very long while, I have no cruise to look forward to. Big sigh.....

You are doomed. Stay off the roof.:)

Go ahead and do the research, make plans, and then when the roof is completed, you will be all ready to choose which itinerary you want to do!
For me, half the fun is the planning stage. Researching itineraries, checking flight information, looking at tourism websites. It has become a hobby!
Hope all goes well with the roofing project.

Wait for the "reduced deposit" sales, then book a cruise a loooooooong way out. Once the roof is paid for, you can decide whether you'll take the booked cruise, or one that you can get on sooner :)

It's time to remove the old countdowns and add a new one.

I love Sails thinking........just so perfect but if you can't do that, then think about refinance your house, interest rates are really low right now and include the cost of the new roof in it. That's what we did, cause there was no way I was going to sit on my roof with chairs, drinks, and a umbrella for my vacation...........

I'm just so happy to find other people have the same values in life as I do:D
Just had a talk with hubby.... will start planning for a cruise a year from now. There's a reduced deposit sale coming up soon, I think. And I have a future cruise deposit with X as well. So all is not lost;)

There you go! With all the planning to do, the year will go by in no time at all, and then you'll be on your cruise.

Christmas will be here soon! Ask your children and anyone else you can think of to put money in a cruise account for you!
Have a garage sale...Sell stuff you don't need...return all those cans and bottles
Save your change in a jar marked cruise fund (check the cushions too!)
Do your taxes in January if you have a refund coming.
Is there anything left in your FSA account?
Does anyone owe you money?
See! You can get the roof done and go on a cruise.
:DHave a great cruise!

Go to travel agency -- pick up some brochures -- look through them.
Maybe something will pop up that will fit into your budget.

Is there like a 12 step program for cruise withdrawal?

I always enjoy just going on a TA website, and playing with their advanced search. Select your favorite line, set the length of cruise to at least 7 days, and set the max price to $500, and then bump it up to 750, and then to 1000.
Its amazing the deals that you can find...not only that, but the cruise picks you and it is a lot of fun just imagining where you could go!

You folks sound like a bunch of Crack Heads!! How absurd to even think a tarp would equal a new roof (just buy a case of that all weather roof tar in a tube). Garage sale, give me a break (much better idea is to sell off one of the kids).

Who needs a roof anyways it never rains in BC :D And if it does I have a DAM RAIN umbrella you could borrow ;) I feel your pain, we just came off the Alaska season and have nothing in the works at this point. FCC in with HAL, so not all is lost just yet. Airfares made a holiday trip almost not worth it. Spring will be here soon enough

OK I got over that empty feeling really fast when we were told the roof should last another 2 years... and out came the cruise planner:D Maybe we can sell the house before it becomes crucial, LOL.
Now I have such a conundrum... ready to hit "book it" for a 22 night FL to Vancouver via the Panama, then someone told me about a circle Hawaii that goes Vancouver-Vancouver at the same time. Oh dear what to do what to do. The Hawaii one has 10 sea days:( which is putting me off, but oh how convenient, no flights!
So on the one hand I am reading about heat and humidity in the Panama, and on the other the trials and tribulations of so many sea days.
Any input greatly appreciated!

Hawaii and back without flying !! That would make the decision for me:)
10 sea days is a bad thing how ?:D I realize sea days aren't everyone's cup of tea....but you don't need a new roof and you are going on a cruise. Yipeee !!! Have fun deciding

Uh Oh ... time to re-name the thread ... "Life Is NOT Empty" :D:D
I'd vote Panama. For you it's just ONE flight. Lucky you whatever you decide!:)

Checked into having home owner's insurance replace it? It's worth looking into. A new cruise is too!

Clearly the OP is afflicated with what has just recently been clinically proven and will soon come out in the near future in an article of the New England Journal of Medicine .......PCD or " Post Cruise Depression". This generally afflicts those over 35 years of age and is seen equally in both men and women......greater length of time between cruises only serves to make for increased bouts of anxiety and is particularly severe in those patients with no future cruises booked at all. Some relief for the patient may be be had by regularly listening to taped cruise ship horns throughout the day. Alas.... the only real cure is planning and taking your next cruise:p .

It happens to us all! Our home just turned 20 yrs - so there are a lot of things that need updating. Year before last - heating & air. Last year - new paint. This year - new roof. Next year - kitchen appliances. It's always something!! We have a fund for that and a fund for travel. That way I never feel bad booking a cruise!:D

Feel so sorry for you. Almost as sorry as I do for the thousands of people who have lost their homes and all possessions during the past year in weather disasters.
Fix the roof, organize the pics of your cruises, write reviews of your cruises, and plan your next vacation.
Of the two rather expensive cruises you are considering, I would take the Hawaii, but different strokes for different folks.

Since we only cruise every other year, I can totally relate to your post. However, it sure is fun to do the research for the next cruise. So start looking at the different ports to see where you want to go! :)

Agreed. And the planning takes my mind off worrying about my son, who is in need of a heart transplant at the age of 38. Everyone has issues, it doesn't mean we feel less sorry for those in disaster areas or that we can't air our own trivial grievances.:(
BTW - I opted for the Panama cruise, so will happily spend the next year planning for that:D.

While you are planning your next cruise...I would pray for a massive hailstorm. We got our roof, siding and shutters replaced a few years back thanks to Mother Nature. Of course our insurance went up but not as much as have to pay for all of that.

I agree...its way too hard to have a garage sale and after all who needs kids!!! (just leave a fowarding address in case you need a kidney transplant later):p
