We just booked our first SeaDream cruise for SDI's March 13 sailing. Thanks so much to everyone on this board for helping us make this decision! I know you don't know me, but I have been lurking like crazy, so I feel as if I sort of know some of you. ;-)
We have tried most of the mass-market lines, but this will be our first luxury cruise. Friends who are big Seabourn fans have been trying to get us to book a SB cruise, but once I found SeaDream there was simply no contest. The casual atmosphere, water sports, and Bali Beds all sound too good to be true!
We travel a fair bit, but I have not been so excited about any trip since our very first cruise--which was our honeymoon almost 30 years ago!
I have a question (which may be the first of many). This trip is to celebrate our anniversary. Will SeaDream acknowledge this in some way without us buying a special package? If so, do I need to give them the date beforehand (or have our travel agent do it), or after we get onboard, or…?
Once again, thanks for this board full of wonderful info. I hope to meet some CC SeaDreamers in March! Counting the days (oh, why are there so many?)…

Welcome!
I'm sure that FT and DisneyJen will chime in about having to buy a special package. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and vow renewals on board. I know that we have had birthday cakes delivered at dinner, but honestly don't know the logistics. Have your TA contact the Miami office to make sure things go smoothly.

I don't think there are any special "packages" you buy, except for maybe vow renewals and honeymoon stuff -- DJ and DJ's DH can answer that better. But I think for a birthday (they'll know that from your passport/booking form) and/or anniversary, if they know, they will do something special like dessert in the dining room or roses on your pillow for no charge. I've seen birthdays done in the dining salon. Have your TA check into it!

Congratulations on your first SD cruise and your upcoming 30th. We celebrated our 25th on board a few years ago and everything was planned while on board. Fortunately we had just spent the day in Capri. How more romantic can you get? Christophe the Maître D' arranged a private table by the pool where we were personnally served by his assistant. We were sailing away from Capri dining under a full moon. It was simply amazing. Can't beat mother nature at organizing an event. In addition, upon returning to our cabin, a trail of red rose petals lead to our bed. Of course, a bottle of champagne on ice was awaiting with roses and and a very nice hand written note. Bottom line: Just talk to the Mitre D' a few days before and simple miracles will happen. For us that dinner, was one we will never forget.

We did the vow renewal in March'09 (thanks FT and zqvol!) for our 25th on SD2. It was really quite wonderful, especially since we were traveling with friends. Here is a link to the review of that day (with photos) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=949045&page=1 The actually vow renewal part is on page two of that thread.
We have celebrated other anniversaries on board and have received a special dessert (our favorite cake and chocolate covered strawberries with champagne) and a special private table as others have mentioned. All of this was planned while on board as well although I did mention, when booking, that we were celebrating our anniversary.
My suggestion would be to notify Miami (either you can do this or have your TA do it) and let them know what day you would like to celebrate. When you board SD touch base with the Hotel Manager about the special occasion.

Thank you SO much for all of your stories and suggestions! I am looking forward to a wonderful anniversary evening now that I know how to make it happen!
Everyone made such an effort to respond quickly--I appreciate that so much, and I'm sorry it took me so long to respond in return. The night after I last posted, my husband broke his hip playing hockey…since then I've been more or less living at the hospital. He'll be there a few more days, then he'll have to keep his weight completely off his left leg for the next eight weeks. Boy, is this going to be fun. Happily, doctors are predicting only four months for a complete recovery, so he should be fine by our March sailing. It's amazing how much closer that date suddenly seems!
