This is another Excursion we are thinking of doing. We have been in plenty of Glass Bottom boats and went on the Land and Sea Combo doing the Semi-Submarine in Georgetown a few years ago. Is the Atlantis any different that this or the Nautilis one? Has anyone taken this excrusion before in Cozumel?
Here is HAL web site info:
Atlantis Submarine Expedition
Your dive adventure begins aboard the transfer ferry that will take you on a 15-minute cruise along Cozumel's west coast. Upon arrival at the dive site you will board a real US Coast Guard-certified submarine and cruise the ocean floor at the island's famous and unique attraction of Chankanaab Reef--an environmentally protected marine park. Through large windows, marvel at the huge variety of tropical fish and magnificent 30-foot coral heads. An experienced co-pilot will be happy to answer your questions about this underwater world. After the 40-minute dive, you will be met by the transfer ferry that will return you to the cruise ship pier. 400-1000 ISO film speed is recommended for photography on the sub (no flash).
NOTES:
Children must be at least 36 inches tall for safety reasons. To board the submarine, you must climb backwards down a step ladder.
Thanks for any info you can give me.:)

We didn't do the Atlantis sub in Cozumel but did it in Kona, Hawaii. Same company and same subs. They had the literature for their various sub bases at their pierside office.
We really enjoyed the trip. It was very interesting to see the "world down below" and the guide was quite knowledgeable. However, if you are in the least bit claustrophobic don't even think about doing it. You will be in a small space with about 60 other people (two rows of seats, back to back, going down the length of the sub). The seats are not generous in size either. The viewports are large and give you a very good area of viewing. We saw many fish as the sub is a kind of mobile salad bar for the fish. The sub spends a fair amount of time at the surface and gets some algae growth that the fish love. When it dives the fish congregate around it to have "lunch". Makes for excellent viewing.
I'd do the trip again if we ever get to Hawaii again -- or better yet, the Caribbean.

Mary, I can't even count how many times we have been to Kona. Before we started cruising we would go there sometimes twice per year. We always would stay at the Royal Kona Resort, it was kinda of old and run down but GREAT location and always clean. They got so they knew us and we also got the same corner suite with a 2 sided balcony. We use to watch every morning as the Atlantis crew would take a boat out to the sub and then move the sub. They parked the sub straight out from our hotel.
We took a semi sub in Grand Caymans a few years ago to see the Sting Rays but I know that it was not that deep. I am curious about how deep this goes in Cozumel and about what all they see and was it a scenic boat ride to get to the submarine.

I haven't done the sub in Cozumel, but did the one in Kona. As I recall the guide said that they were only certified to take PAX down to about 100 feet below the surface. He said the sub was actually designed to safely travel far deeper than that, however. I would do it again.

Do it--you won't regret it. I highly recommend the experience. Mom and I did the Atlantis sub in Cayman during our Panama Canal cruise, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. I will never forget it. I want to take my husband and son next, and Mom wants to do the two-person, deep dive. I'd love to do that if I can muster up the courage--I have a bit of claustrophobia. I had the shakes on the sub, but it was well worth it. I think we've got a deal: I do the deep-dive with her, and she parasails with me. (Just braggin' on my mother here, but she is one of those active, awesome, over 65s that you find on HAL!)
