We bought train transfers from Seward to Anchorage. We have been getting conflicting info about when the train leaves Seward. Does anyone have any idea about the times.

We took the train two years ago. It was one of the best parts of our trip to Alaska. We saw tons of wildlife on the way up, and the train had a nice little dining area. We were the first people off the ship- I think about 6:30, and the train left shortly thereafter. We arrived in Anchorage around lunchtime. Hope this helps.

WHO did you purchase this from??? If the cruiseline- the train leaves in the morning- in the past by 8am. (about $100) IF You purchased directly from the railroad- ($59) then it leaves at 6pm- and HIGHLY recommended- as Seward isn't a place to just pass through- you have missed an excellent touring opportunity if you do. What fits nicely into the regular run of the Alaska RR is a Kenai Fjords boat trip leaving at 11:30am then getting back in time for the train- you check your bags before the trip and they are loaded for you. This boat tour- offers just excellent wildlife viewing- far superior to anything on your cruise ship and a very close up glacier viewing- again superior to anything via cruiseship. If at all possible - don't miss out! Also the regular run- goes to the downtown depot, where the cruise contracted train goes to the airport.

Thanks. We purchased from the cruiseline. I'm sorry that we have to miss a day in Seward but time is tight for us. Maybe the next time.:)

The ship usually arrives around in Seward around 3 or 4 in the morning. Everyone is up bright and early. Breakfast is also very early so that those going on the train have a chance to eat. And those going on the train are the first ones off - by 6:30 AM. They do sell breakfast on the train. The next group to get off the ship are those heading to Anchorage by bus wether it be to a hotel or the airport. Then the independents are the last to leave.

For clairfication- independents can get off the ship ANYTIME as you don't clear customs here. You just walk off the ship. :) I have left the ship by 7am myself- just walk off and to a "tent" where the luggage is.

Just for clarification - on our cruise - Aug/Sept 2003, there were so many passengers signed up for the train and the buses, the evening independents and those of us staying on for the return trip to Vancouver received letters asking us NOT to disembark the ship till the train and buses left as there would be too many people in the terminal collecting luggage and getting it put onto the trucks and buses.
