Hello!

I'm currently booked on the Oosterdam (Verandah Deck VA5180).

I found a location on HAL's site (in their online booking section) that shows the square footage of available cabins. My "neighboring" cabin is listed at 229 square feet.

The same cabin one deck down is larger at 240 square feet. Do you know where the difference is felt? Is this in balcony size or cabin size?

Thanks for the info...it will help me determine if I swap cabins.

Tiffany

Tiffany,
If you click here & scroll down (http://messages.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=116712&highlight=4176+4179+4181+5180) you will find some answers. This was on a Zuiderdam post, but Oosterdam has same layout. Hope this helps.

Thank you my OC neighbor... (grin)

Now I have to decide if I want a larger balcony or cabin, hmmm....

You are quite welcome, neighbor...

Here's a link to some photos showing aft balconies (http://homepage.mac.com/tlassek/PhotoAlbum22.html) that might be interest.

Maybe someone who has stayed in VA on both decks 4 & 5 will respond with some first hand info.

Lynn

Where are you finding all these great links? The more pictures I see of the aft...the more excited I get!!!

The links are from some reasearch done while booking our next cruise. DW & I were thinking of an aft cabin but decided we didn't want to spend the $$ for an S and wanted something a little larger than the A so finally went with an SS which ruled out an aft cabin for us.... this time at least.... unless the upgrade fairy is VERY good to us http://messages.cruisecritic.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif . We have yet to ever be upgraded, but who knows??? Never hurts to dream! The aft balconies are very appealing though and we do want to try one sometime. I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever cabin you decide on. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Well you've certainly passed along some great photos so your research has paid off...for me anyway!

Are you going to be sailing on the O'dam? Which date? I'd love to hear about your trip if you sail before us!

Thanks!

Tiffany,
Glad you found my research helpful. Yes, we will be going 4/9 for our 2nd sailing on the "O".

Seabourndt,
You might try a search for "4180 or 4185" in the Holland America board leaving of the quotation marks. You will pull several threads with those cabin numbers highlighted as you scroll through. One example:
Click here & scroll to a couple of posts by "tommy" (http://messages.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=95655&highlight=4180)
Keep in mind that the Oosterdam, Zuiderdam & Westerdam all have the same layout & 4185 is the same as 4180 except for being the mirror image on opposite corner. This should be a great location with a fantastic wrap around balcony. I hope to try one of the corner category S cabins someday. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
