Do those get posted after the main dining room closes the night before? I'm wondering how I'd know ahead of time whether or not it's worth it to spend more time in the dining room on a particular morning in order to get something special as opposed to saving time by eating in the Lido (which, as we all know, has the same menu for breakfast every morning).

The breakfast menu is fairly standard and is the same everyday....any and everything...mix and match....I mean, there are only so many things for breakfast....
Pancakes, french toast, eggs of any style, breakfast meats, potatoes, fruit, cereals, hot and cold, granola, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea.....it's there!

There is a new breakfast menu on some ships right now and it has wonderful new additions to the old menu.
There is one menu for breakfast in the Dining Room: this menu does not change as the lunch and dinner ones do. There used to be breakfast specials, but I think with the new menu HAL isn't doing specials, at least not in the Dining Room.
The Dining Room is mostly about service, as the food served in there and in the Lido are very similar.

Out of curiosity, does HAL offer Indonesian food for breakfast (or otherwise)? I'd be happy to have Nasi Goreng every morning. :)

We, too, would love to have some Indonesian food for breakfast, but this is not something I have seen or heard of being available.
Maybe if we all ask nicely and enthusiastically, they will include an Indonesian Breakfast along with the Japanese, American, Dutch, English and Scandinavian ones!

You may want to ask the servers at the Lido buffet if they can get you some Indonesian or Filipino breakfasts that aren't on the menu. I got some Filipino garlic fried rice and beef tapa for breakfast after seeing a Filipino passenger ask the Filipino server in the hot breakfast section. It doesn't hurt to ask an Indonesian crew member. They may not have it that day, but the servers can let you know whether or when Indonesian dishes are available the next day(s).

thanks for the thought. On the old Marco Polo (Orient Lines) which had a Filipino crew, I basically lived on food from the crew kitchen. It was MUCH better than the glop they normally served passengers. :)

No, I am not expecting glop on a HAL ship.

The breakfast menu does not vary in the MDR. It's the standard fare. However, there is a daily special offered.
