...my boss has been raving about the food and service aboard Cunard and their Queen's Grille accommodations aboard Queen Victoria for the past couple years - She sails aboard Queen Mary 2 next month.

I too would love to try Cunard but I would also need to purchase a new wardrobe. Since I would not be sailing in steerage I would have to have the clothes appropriate to the voyage.
I know the Brits are very big on dress code. Just ask my husband who was asked to remove his hat at breakfast at an all-inclusive in Kenya. Who made the request, the dress code supervisor. I should add there was a sign posted about dress code but we did not read it carefully.
Anyhow, back to the theme of the thread...not only would I want to try first class on Cunard but why not try all of the upper tier cruise lines? How fun would that be?

I would love to be aboard the new Queen Elizabeth for her 2012 World Voyage as well. A world cruise on a Cunard vessel has been my dream for years and years. Unfortunately a world cruise involves not only tons of money but tons of time... Won't be taking one for at least 5 years (RETIREMENT!!!!). And then I have to figure out what to do with my cats and dogs....

DD and her family have done that 3 or 4 times, it doesn't require much money after you have your Capt. papers. :) Of course you may be thinking of one with a Capt. and cook included, those are more, but less exercise. :(

I would choose a HAL AFT Wrap Around Stateroom (at minimum a Stateroom with Neptune Lounge access) and book it, on any and all HAL ships that have one. I'd never get off the HAL line except to switch ships for the next cruise and to go through Customs or excursions.
Basically, I'd become another Mama Lou:)
I've already told hubby that when he passes, I will be cashing out all insurance, selling the house and all belongings and Booking my HAL cruises forever.

I might give Crystal or Cunard a try for novelty value, but I *really* like HAL. The PS would be too big for me, even with DH along. I'm thinking aft corner balcony - but I'd want my kitty to come, too!
For me, I'd sail wherever the ship went for several months, disembark in Victoria for a month or two in the summer, re-board in Sept and sail til the holidays. Spend the hols with family, then reboard, rinse, repeat.

If I had all the money in the world, I would probably not cruise HAL again with the exception, possibly, of the Prinsendam.
More likely I would choose Regent or Seabourne ... choosing the smaller ships because that's where it all began:).
And once a year I'd sail through French Polynesia on Paul Gauguin .... mmmmmm.
But mostly I'd become a philanthrpist and have a weather beaten shingled cottage on Cape Cod with a huge porch and lots of light and live their happily forever probably choosing to travel only briefly once or twice a year.

If money were no object? Ah, how I love the sound of that.
I would sail HAL at least as much as I do now, but would move up from my usual cave. Maybe even get a balcony!
Who knows, I might even make platinum.
I would probably also toss in a few cruises on other lines, such as Saga, just for variety. I'd like to try Cunard again, but might find the ships too big. And maybe a Crystal cruise just to compare.
I visited a Crystal ship recently, and thought it gorgeous! But the dining room service on HAL is nicer.
And Seaborn. Gotta try them, too. And get the CCL on-board credit.

Going east to west will be by air , right?
It is a 5-6 hour change from EST to ECT How you travel is important
In coach allow 1 day per every 2 hours of change
In Business or First allow 1 day for every 5 hours of change.
I am on the same cruise as you and I am looking at a 12 hour time change and a 6 and 11 hour flight !!!. I wont be in coach:o.
Going east to west will be on a ship and take weeks... you will notice no change on that direction
One trick that works is several days prior to the trip start changing your routine by an hour or so.... It gets the body in change mode and makes it easier.
Then, a biggie.. on the plane set your watch to the time it is where you are headed. If it is 10 am where you are... and 9 pm where you are headed and you go to bed at 10.... then go to sleep at that time...forget the movie, or reading.
Start living in the new time zone using your old time habits. So you miss a meal.
While some rely on them for everything....dont use drugs they dehydrate you in a plane and make you prone to sickness and mess you up.... Bring an eye shade and ear plugs... and force your self to disconnect with what is happening
Many of the business and first class services now offered will serve you on your schedule as they realize many experienced travelers do this . Dont start a trip by looking at your watch and saying do you know what time it is back home. That will screw you up more than you think... dont do it......not for a second
I used to commute weekly to Zurich and Singapore... and learned a lot from the experience... And I pack a real pillow form home.. as a carryon.

The Bose Quiet Comfort 15 noise canceling headphones are fantastic for creating a cocoon of peace on noisy planes and are also a great substitute for the crummy earphones the airlines provide for in-seat entertainment. The Bose set up is far better than any sleeping pill. The more I get to sleep on a plane the far easier I find the jet lag transition is for me.

When I first heard about "The World" and Residensea years ago, it sounded like heaven. But, I understand there is far less sociability onboard with other owners/guests/pax.
Sociability is one of the joys of cruising for me. I like meeting new people too much to sail by private yacht. I understand wanting your furry family aboard if they're dogs. However, I've not yet been owned by a cat who would take kindly to the nonsense of leaving the One and Only Home.
I'd definitely be splashing out on Regent and Cunard world cruise segments, but I'm not convinced consecutive months aboard is for me. Part of that is due family commitments (not just the furry family). "Money is no object" might mean my mother could cruise again, with 2 paid attendants, but at this stage she'd be happier at home.
However, I wouldn't be flying any commercial airlines, not even in first class. People, think about it, "money no object"?
Charter jet!
No security lines, no waiting for boarding, no worries about missing your flight, no customs lines. Until they invent a matter transfer transporter, it's the least hassle possible.

You got me curious about this and found the studios ( like a HAL verandah room) starts at $600,000 and then there is that additional monthly charge of $20,000 whether you sail or not. Might actually make sense to long time cruisers when even HAL can charge up to $30,000 plus for some of its world cruise segments.
Out of my league, but this was the ..... if money were no object .. thread. Best thing was this ship spends 3-5 days in ports -- that would really make it more a travel adventure than just day tripping in ports. I like that part of it which we also had on our multi-segment MV Discovery Cruise - there were three days in port between each segment so we really got to get around and do a lot of land travel too.
So yes, the idea of not even packing because you already have furnished your "home" and all you have to do is turn the key and go sounds pretty good. Plus only have a few hundred people on board at any given time would make this part of the adventure too.
Well, thanks for putting this into my contact from a dear lost relative who had no other heirs file.:o

I would be out of my element and comfort zone on ship with a country club atmosphere.
I would probably stick to the mainstream lines like HAL and just upgrade the cabin and enjoy more of the ship's amenities. Our first cruise in 2008, we spent less than $50 for the two of us for a one week cruise on our ship account. With loads of money, I would splurge...visit the spa, take the expense ship tours, classes, pay extra restaurants etc. It would be fun for awhile, but I like land vacations too, so I would not be cruising around the world.

I'd book some Regent and Seabourn cruises in the suite cabin of my choice (preferably aft so I can sit on my balcony and relish the glorious wake). Brian's advice is usually to be followed.
And while Regent, Seabourn, etc. offer a product upscale from HAL, and private yachts offer total flexibility along with maintenance & staffing & provisioning all to be watched after; we are talking UNLIMITED $$$$$$$$ !
So, here's a proposal:

They provide the ship to your specifications, Ice rated hull, No. of suites, recreation facilities, dining venues, like nothing else afloat.
Officers, crew, entertainers, chefs, & staff of the very best, all seen to by HAL while taking care of everything !

as a way of offsetting the no increase in Social Security. That could mean an outside vs. inside cabin.
I wouldn't count that particular chicken just yet ;)
But, at least you have your spending plan in order

You answered the question put by the OP! :)
I am amazed (sp) at the # of posters who have just said "upgrade what I do now" with no idea of luxury yachting. Fantastic shows of what's posible have run and rerun on TV for those with little imagination.

The luxury yacht looks appealling; however, I wouldn't be comfortable with the waste. I'm not a person who needs a lot of personalized service. I can't imagine, even with unlimited funds, paying a staff to stand around waiting on me to need them. I've stayed at posh hotels and resorts that offer concierge and butler services, but I don't really use them. I don't mind packing/unpacking my own things (that way I know where they are) or going to get my own food at the buffet (I can pick my own food and quantity).
I guess I'd be another one of those boring people who would stick to a regular cruiseline but take longer cruises in an upgraded cabin. I haven't been to Antarctica, Australia, Tahiti, or northern Europe yet. There are still places around the Mediterranean that I'd like to explore. Hubby would like another Galapagos cruise.

I would rent a HAL ship for my own private voyage and ask all the posters on this board to come along for free (except for those who say we have no imagination). ;)

Most people who get a windfall just keep doing what they were doing, according to lottery studies and statistics.
Not that many even "call in rich". Winners themselves are often surprised to realize they enjoy enough of their job to want to keep doing it. Often, it's the daily contact with other people they discover they'd miss.
Sorry to repeat myself, but that's why a yacht has very limited appeal for me. I already know my friends. I like them just fine, but----I want to meet new people.
I feel sorry for celebrities with famous faces. They can't be anonymous in crowds, so must seek out getaways with privacy. I'd find an entourage deadly dull.
