Southampton

We are considering a cruise terminating in Southampton and would fly out of either Gatwick or Heathrow. We wonder how long it would take to travel to either of those airports from Southampton and what a taxi might cost? We need this information in order to know what time to book a return flight to the US after disembarkation.

The advice we have received for our cruise this summer is that you should not schedule flights earlier than 1:30 PM out of Heathrow, and 2:30 PM from Gatwick since it is further away. We are sharing private car service with 2 other couples for our return trip to London, arranged through our roll call. Travel between London and Southampton is a significant expense. Princess was asking 75 GBP for round-trip transfers; I assume HAL would be similar.

Travel between London and Southampton is a significant expense.It's possible to do it relatively cheaply if you use public transport, but much depends on how much you want the convenience of a private car transfer (or, for that matter, the cruise line's transfer).

In Dec 2003, I transfered, with my DH and 4 large suitcases from London to Southampton. It was done by private car, with a 2 hour stop at Stonehenge, for about 200 GBP. For us, well worth the cost.
