I will be on the Oosterdam out of San Diego in March. On my previous cruises I haven't been able to board until maybe 2 PM, but this time I would like to get on the ship early and have a chance to have a leisurely lunch and walk around to check out the ship before we leave port. However, the pre-cruise info says that cabins are not expected to be ready until 1 PM, so I may not be able to drop off my carry-on luggage, which will probably consist of a 20" carry-on suitcase and a backpack. What do people usually do with their luggage before the cabins are ready, especially when they're getting lunch?

Sometimes they have a location you can drop them off at, we just took ours to the Lido buffet, left them at our table and sat there eating lunch, by then our cabin was ready.:)

In our case we leave our carry-ons and back-pack in the Neptune Lounge.

On the Westerdam, on our last cruise, people were told that they could leave their carry-ons in the Piano Bar. I assume that they have someone there to check in your things.

My experience is the same as the others'---when I boarded the Rotterdam in NYC there was a paper listing out some info. One thing noted was where to bring our carry-on's for safekeeping. There was a steward keeping watch and handing out claim-checks.

Very convenient.

When I embarked the Ryndam in December, I arrived at about 11AM and was able to drop my luggage off with a porter. It will be delivered to your stateroom later that day. You can board as early as 11AM and explore the ship until the staterooms are prepared. In that time you can also disembark to explore the city further . . . .
