What are some suggestions for Souvenirs from the ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallerta?

I collect Christmas ornaments, so I know I will be looking for those. What else?

Is it mostly what you would see in Cozumel? Been there twice and we haven't bought much.

I am not sure if they offer this in the ports you are going to but in Cozumel what I always like to purchase is the Pure Mexican Vanilla. If you know anyone who bakes, they would enjoy this, I call it Mexican Gold. Its wonderful and makes a great gift.

In Puerto Vallarta, look for the beautiful, colorful, fine bead work figurines or eggs (which make great Christmas ornaments).

ROZO'SBEAU - The beaded figurines and eggs sound different.

Maracas, silver and vanilla are all things we have seen in Cozumel along with the rugs, ivory chess games and porcelain sinks. I guess most of the same in the new ports. :(

Silver, turquoise, leather and wood. In PV, especially, Huichol bead work. The Galleria Artmex (Juarez & Corona streets - it's on your ship's port map) is outstanding for pottery and Huichol.

In Mazatlan we found great silver jewelry in some of the smaller shops in the Zona Dorada (in an alley near the Senor Frog's/ Carlos O'Briens store)

I can give a word of caution what not to buy... ;) My daughter asked for a brightly painted guitar and I gave in... it is turquoise with hand painted pink and yellow flowers.

As we met up with my DH and son at the cab, my DH looked at me and said, "don't expect me to lug that thing home" - I didn't even think of the fact that it would have to be carried on a 6-7 hour plane ride...

:D Did you find someone to buy it from you who was a car ride from home?

Or did you lug it home on the plane? Inquiring minds want to know!! :)

I have always heard not to buy hand painted items from Mexico because the paint may have high levels of lead.

Yours truly lugged it home... now it sits on a shelf in her room and yours truly gets to dust it... ;)

It has a pretty good coat of laquer on it and DD is long past the stage where she is teething - she just acts like a two year old sometimes!
