I am very excited this morning. I went to the HAL website and got our cabin assignment from the Immigration form. We had a BB guarantee and we've been assigned a B cabin (206). We would have been happy anywhere, but I'm happy with the location of this cabin. One deck up to swim, one deck down to eat. Despite all the recent problems reported here on the Maasdam, I am going in with an open mind and will make the best of any situation.

Cheric have a wonderful trip.
Great cabin location, not too far from the stairs.
Keep her in good shape for our April trip.

Thanks palmgirl. We'll leave her in better shape than we found her for your cruise in April. I thought the cabin looked like it was located great. Not too far to go to the steps and yet a little bit out of the way. I am truly excited now. I gambled on a guarantee and it worked.

the poor reviews keep coming in about the maasdam.... we are determined to have a great time never the less!!
86 degrees in the cabin:eek: ?!? now that might be tough to deal with, we've got our fingers crossed
and for cheric.... there still doesn't appear to be many out there willing to admit to being on the Feb 27 sailing .... maybe we'll have alternate cabin possibilites because the ship will be empty :D

Do you think maybe we'll be put in the Penthouse Suite???? The ship is almost filled and yet so few from this board are apparently going. I hate reading all this "bad" stuff about the Maasdam. As I've said before, it is our first HAL cruise (our third in all). Our first cruise was on the Millenium (Celebrity). We had engine troubles and missed one of our ports and half the people in our group were sick. Our second was on the Galaxy out of Baltimore. The seas were so bad on the way back that the tray in the room and ice bucket were flying and I rolled out of bed. Even after all of that, I'm willing to try again and look for the best. You get out of a cruise what you put into it and can't expect perfection. I am confident we will all have a great time. I'd rather have it 86 than as cold as it is here! Sunshine ... take me away!

this will be our 6th cruise together (my 8th, my parents took me twice when i was a kid) and we have had a few issues previously... once they were chipping away paint from metal railings with an hammer and chisel... right outside our room... every morning... i came very close to going out there and throwing their hammers into the ocean
Another time our cabin was just below the kitchen galley... so it was noisy with pots being dropped and people running about yelling and making noise every night until about 2am. There was one time on a 14 day cruise we only made 5 ports (only 4 of the scheduled ports) due to weather and high seas. We have gotten lucky with our last several cruises though everything has been great. I hope i don't start another thread with people ranting about the problems with HAL, i just want to say that inspite of those things i mentioned and other minor problems here and there... we have never had a bad cruise! ... and we are determined to enjoy this one coming up. Although i do feel for some of the people and the problems they have had on the Maasdam recently, we are going into this cruise completely confident that we will have a fantastic time.

It's funny, some of our best cruises were the ones that others thought were horrible.
Other cruises that people raved about were abysmal for us.
It is all a state of mind and if in good company anything can be wonderful.
Enjoy your cruise. :D

We did it..just made our reservations for this cruise today. We couldn't get a great cabin of course, since it's so late..but we did get DD373 on Lower Prominade. I envy you lucky devils that have verandahs. We had one for our first cruise on Maasdam last March, and it was fantastic. We loved the ship and look forward to lazy days at sea (although the first time, I felt like I was at summer camp..trying to fit in all the things there were to do.) Hope to meet some of you onboard. :)

So glad to know more people are coming with us. the time is counting down and I am getting so excited. My sister and her husband are driving down to Maryland from Buffalo and we are going to drive to Norfolk. We'll probably leave the morning of (depending on weather) since it's about a four hour drive. My sister and I will be the two ditzy blondes dragging their DH's with them ... the ladies with the big smiles on their faces!! Hope to meet up with some of you.

What do you mean ditzy blondes. I am not ditzy...but the part about the smiles on our faces and dragging the DHs...you got that right. Counting down. Buffalo getting snow now, not much. Hopefully it will be gone so we have a safe trip down to MD.:D
