We are going to be in Ft Lauderdale in early April, for the weekend prior to our cruise leaving Sunday. We have 4 grandchildren living in the Miami area, and would like to book two rooms at a hotel (not too far from the port/airport) that has excellent swimming facilities, and at least one of the rooms needs a micro and fridge, if not a little kitchen. What is the weather like to swim at that time? What about the beach? help! ps the kids are 2-8 years old.

We've stayed at the Embassy Suites. They have mini refrigerators and microwaves and a nice pool. Breakfast is also included. You're just a few blocks from the pier. No beach area, though. I think the Hyatt Pier 66 does have beach access. Hopefully someone will be along who has stayed there and can tell you for sure.

When in FLL last July we stayed at the Hyatt Pier 66 and had all sorts of plans to go and do other activities but when we arrived at the hotel and saw the grounds we never left the hotel area. We were in heaven for the three days before our cruise.
The rooms have a frig, not sure about a stove. The hotel has a few great restaurants and the pool area (2 of them) one adult and one with a kids pool and swings for the kids. It sits on 23 acres and is a very nice place. Also has a marina and shops in the lobby area.
I think everyone would enjoy it.

I believe I answered in one of your other post about FLL.
I recommended the Embassy Suites also. Along with the kitchenette,a free breakfast buffet is offer.

The pool isn't heated but on a sunny day - it's great.
There are a lot of nice restaurants in the area - even Kentucky Fried chicken for the kids.

If the grandkids live in Miami, they may find it a little chilly swimming in an unheated pool in April!
I know my unheated pool doesn't warm up enough to swim in until June!
But I like my water in the 80s.
I've never stayed at Pier 66, but I've been there and it's lovely.

Hyatt Pier 66 has beautiful grounds and we have enjoyed swimming in their pool all months of the year. December, January, February.....if the weather is warm enough (and it usually is), their pools are fabulous. There are even areas perfect for smaller children.
There are mini bars in all rooms. I am sure you could empty out their contents BUT BE SURE TO SPEAK WITH THE DESK ABOUT IT BEFORE DOING SO. They may have one of those detector signal things that tell them if something is removed and it is automatically billed.
The rooms do NOT have microwaves.

A good hotel for beach access is the Radisson Bahia Mar on Seabreeze Av. (A1A)
Stayed there a few times, and the views of Port Everglades are nice!

Sorry....
Forgot to add that Hyatt Pier 66 has no beach and is more than short walking distance from the closest beach.

thanks, everybody for the good info. So, at the Hyatt, you swam in Dec and Jan? Surely in April that will be warm enough. With 4 kids under the age of 8, the best entertainment would be the pool, it's quite an ordeal to get them all dressed up, and take them out to dinner, or worse yet, a mall!!! (Those of you who have small grandkids know what I'm talking about). I'll try to make a decision soon. Martha.
