I know it wasn't available as an excursion on my Amsterdam sailing last August. I asked specifically about it after I boarded, as I had been looking forward to it very much.

I see that you are on the Amsterdam's 14 day cruise.
We had booked that cruise for this past June -- originally Tracy Arm was listed -- but once Alaska made their choices for which ships would visit Glacier Bay on certain dates -- Tracy Arm was eliminated.
That could happen for next year as well.
That is why you will not see an excursion for that port at this early date.

Ah interesting! I have heard from others on CC that their itinerary did get changed between the time they booked and before sailing and not having the tracy arm excursions on early can also explain why - Im glad Ive been able to sign up for the "for sure" spots will wait and see what happens with tracy arm/glacier bay --- thanks for the reminder! Either way we are looking forward to this cruise ALOT!

Califgary, we cruised Tracy Arm in September, and it was fabulous. We went on the ship -- no shorex required. If you get to Tracy Arm, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did :D

I don't understand. Why would they change the itinerary? If the 2011 itinerary is the same as the 2010 itinerary, wouldn't everything already be in place? We chose our itinerary based on going to Glacier Bay and Tracy Arm!

Indeed, Tracy Arm was initially on our itinerary for this year (we sailed on 5/31/10), but it was changed to Glacier Bay once permits were issued. With that change from Tracy Arm to Glacier Bay, we gained an additional couple of hours in both Skagway (Icy Straight Point next year), and Sitka - would have liked to take those additional hours and lumped them on to our Homer or Kodiak stops instead;). Anyway, further changes were made that we didn't even find out til we were on board - they cut the time in Victoria BC from an afternoon stop to one of those less than desirable 7PM to midnight stops, which was a bummer.

Wow: at what point were you notified that Glacier Bay was on?

Califgary - I don't know when we found out about it - someone posted it on our Roll Call when they noticed it on the HAL website. I'm thinking it was in the winter time - like around mid-January, if I'm not mistaken. Hoping some folks from our Roll Call (May 31st sailing) will pop up with more definitive answer. I tried looking for our Roll Call- but pfffttt! its gone! Sigh....I miss chatting with those folks already! LOL!
