I have booked a private tour in Puerto Vallarta and the tour operator asked me to confirm ship time for that port so we would be sure to be back before sailing. I'm pretty sure it will be the same but would like confirmation. Does anyone know if the Amsterdam will be on Central time at Puerto Vallarta?

The ships take on the local time, from my experience anyway. They will announce it aboard the ship that the clocks will be moved ahead/back and left a note on our bed the night before the clock was moving ahead an hour.

My guess, the ship will be on Central time, the same as the port south of the stare line (Nayarit/Jalisco) But for what ever reason many times some ships stay on Mountain time. In our experience this happened twice on the Oosterdam and three times on the Carnival Spirit. The crazy thing about the Spirit, all three ports we visited (Acapulco, Zihuantinejo and Manzanillo) were in Central and we stayed in Mountain on the ship. Go figure?? On your cruise and mine too;);), the ship will have been four days in Mountain time, so people will have had time to adjust. But it would not surprise me if the Captain decides that for just one port, we will stay on Mountain in PV.

I agree with Reefisher, we have been on ships that went on local time and ones that stayed on "ship time" The last one we were on that stayed on Ship time was the Eurodam. Not sure if it is up to the captain or who but it does cause some confusion even though they give you plenty of notice in the paper you get on your bed and if you see your room steward he/she will remind you also. Not sure how you can find out in advance unless you post it on these boards and someone who just went on the ship answers, but that is no guarantee either, could be a new captain when you get on.

PV is the one port where HAL consistently stays on ship time. To do otherwise would be too many time changes on a short cruise (4 on a 7-day).

We were on the Oosterdam last month and in PV on 10/06/2010. Daily Program noted that PV time would be one hour ahead of ship's time.

Just check the ship's clock before you leave...there's one at every exit. Make sure your WATCH...not a cell phone!...is set to the same time as the ship!

It depends what itinary the ship is sailing.
Since you sail the Sea of Cortez and Puerto vallarta is the only port with another time change, most likely the ship will stay at Mountain time.
That will be one hour ahead of ship time. (PVR is on central time).
Indeed also Oosterdam usually does that.
According to the website of the harbormaster the ship is supposed to arrive at 08.00 a.m. But sometimes needs a little extra before customs gives clearance.
(I suppose you arrive on Dec. 10 2010?)

Only if the ship also includes Acapulco, Zihuatenejo etc. the time changes again.

If the ships time differs from Local time, they will make a big deal about it in announcements. If you pay attention on board, you will know the correct time to be back!
