Can anyone please tell me the tipping policy of the Zuiderdam....Is it automatic like other ships, or is it the old way with the envelopes...Also if it is automatic, do you have the option to remove it and give envelopes at your own discretion...thanks...going in September..

Your shipboard account will be billed $10 per person per day. You may remove the charges and tip on your own if you like. Envelopes are available upon request.

If you remove the auto tip and tip yourself, your steward must share the tip with the staff. Per the letter I just received with my docs for an upcoming HAL trip: "Good service starts with crewmembers you may never have the opportunity to meet ... To ensure the efforts of these crewmembers are also recognized and to discourage solicitation of guests, dining and cabin sterwards are required to turn in any tips they received directly from those guests who have removed or reduced the gratuities on their onboard bills."

If you chose to remove the automatic tips, your cabin steward and dining room staff are notified. They are SUPPOSED to turn in any money you give them. How honest are they - I can't answer that. But we have seen the area captains on the last night watch certain tables (more than usual) to see if the waitstaff were given any monies.

It's actually the same as all other ships in the HAL fleet and there are exhaustive and informative posts addressing this which can be found via the 'search' as well :)
