I don't know about the shuttle to shopping and stores from the Marriot? Shopping mall will be open until 9pm, grocery stores until 11pm. There is a great restaurant "Kincaids" at MacArthur Center mall which has great shopping also. I would be willing to bet that if a shuttle went anywhere from the Marriot it would be here. Also, around the corner form the mall is a section called Ghent with lots of cozy (small) restaurants that serve great food. Kincaids does specialized in seafood and steaks, you won't be dissapointed. Maybe this info helps.

In case you are not familiar with downtown Norfolk, you can easily walk safely from the Marriott to the Macarthur Mall. I agree Kincaids is a nice upscale place to eat. Good seafood!

No, Bluefish, I'm not familar as I am from Canada and this is my first visit. I use a scooter for long walks. So how far is it, 1-2 miles. Found it. It is 2 blocks from the hotel. Thank you. I will have supper there on Sat. Weather looks good for Sun. 11C

We also have dined at Kincaid’s Fish, Chop, and Steak House in the MacArthur Center (just a short distance from the cruise terminal). We took some friend there for dinner and found the food and service to be outstanding. Perhaps a little pricey but I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Do any of the Hotel's in the area let you leave your car parked at their garage while you cruise. Hubby and I are thinking of taking the cruise from Norfork and it's so close we can drive. (we live on Maryland's Eastern shore) ANy info would be helpful
Thanks

I am in the Norfolk area. Kincaid's will probably not disappoint. It is definitely overpriced. Most locals only go there once. However, to experience more local flavor the suggestion to try one of the more intimate restaurants in the Ghent section is sound advice. Seafood is on every menu in this neck of the woods. For the best seafood, you need to get in a taxi and go about 20 minutes to Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. Lynnhaven Fish House is the best for seafood and local ambience. It is right on the Chesapeake Bay. Beautiful views, great food, and great service. (Reservations recommended.) I highly recommend anyone cruising out of Norfolk and coming in early, take the time to visit Virginia Beach. It's a great place to live and soooo different from downtown Norfolk.

Sorry, but they do not take reservations...I would dine in the Norfolk downtown area, where you can get nice dinners. Check with the hotel for suggerstions. The beauty of staying at the downtown Marriot is the convenience to the pier and everything else. No need to taxi any place else or drive.

If you like seafood, Lynnhaven Fish House absolutly the best. Kindkaids is overpriced, however, the food is good for a cruiser. Not so much for the locals. Ghent is a must just to check out. Enjoy....I hope it is warmer than it is today. BURR. We had an inch of snow last night....Going on my first cruise 3/5 Zuiderdam. Can't wait...

Our cruise will be ending in Norfolk in late Oct. How far is it to the airport? Is there a shuttle service? I changed our flight departure time from noon to 5:45 pm. Hope that is late enough incase our ship arrives really late as some posters have mentioned. Are the seas as rough in Oct as they are now?

You may want to try Freemason Abbey ( a beautiful old church which has been transformed into a restaurant) which is close to the pier. It is really close to the Marriott and is a favorite place for us for lunch or dinner. They do take reservations and they have great seafood also. I believe they have a website. You may want to check this out. There is also a local eatery called Max and Erma's in MacArthur Mall. This is within walking distance of the Marriott also. They have a variety of items on their menu. The mall is open until 9:00 p.m. with the exception of Sundays. Hope you will enjoy our area as much as we do. Of course, as suggested the Ghent area has some great places also, but they would be a short taxi ride to get to them.
Of course, the sea conditions will depend on the winds and we can get strong winds in October, but then we also have many beautiful calm days in October. It just depends on how Mother Nature is feeling that day.

October is still technically hurricane season.
