View Full Version : Unlimited Laundry question

Is it worth it? Do you use it? If you plan on getting it, can you pack lighter, or is there the real risk of your clothes not being returned in time to use them again?
Do you send out a bag when it is full, or just a few things at a time? Do you mix darks and lights in the same bag? If so, are they separated for laundering or do they do them together? [this implies that some of you accompany your laundry and watch it being done, I know you don't do this, I am just looking for your impressions;) ]
I fully realize that some of these questions might be impossible to answer, but I thought I would give it a shot.
I do enjoy getting home with maybe half of our clothes still clean (or clean again) especially this time as DH leaves 5 days after we get back for a far-far-away business trip and there won't be much laundry turnaround time.
Thanks for your thoughts.
By the way, we are leaving on the Westerdam this Sunday!

Having laundry done on the ship is great.
We love being able to send out our things and having them returned all pressed and beautifully folded or hung per our request.
When we send out our bag to be laundered, there are darks and whites in the same bag. They are separated at the laundry. You can send out a bag everyday with just a few things in it or wait until you have a fuller bag. Your choice...either way is fine by them.
While I have never followed our bag of clothes down to the laundry and watched it being done, :) I would imagine our articles are all added into large, commercial machines. Whites seems to always be washed in hot water (don't send out anything white that would shrink in hot water).....Darks have always been returned just fine to us.
From time to time, the dry cleaning machines on board break down. In all of our cruises, that may have happened maybe two or three times but I always keep in mind it COULD happen so I don't absolutely depend upon it. I don't recall every having a problem because of that.
We are in an "S" so our laundry and dry cleaning is included in the price we pay, but if it were not, I would absolutely buy the package for the duration of our cruise.
It's great to be able to come home with mostly clean clothes.

I take long cruises, so laundry has to be done. Several times, as a matter of fact.
The question becomes who does it? Me? Send it out and pay each time? Or purchase the unlimited plan?
I prefer to do my own laundry, so would never purchase the unlimited plan---and that includes even if I were to take the full World Cruise! I'm not about to leave it to others to decide how my laundry is to be done---too many sad stories in real life that I won't repeat at sea.

Does anyone know how much the unlimited laundry is for a 7 day cruise? Is that per person or per cabin? Also do they still have the stuff all you can in a bag for a specific price? We are on the O'dam in 3 weeks. Thanks.

Unlimited laundry was $50.00 per babin up to 75 items. Pressing was included but not dry cleaning. They also have all you can put in a bag for $15.00. Everything was done beautifully. We gave the cabin steward our laundry bag in the morning and usually got our laundry back that evening.

How large is the bag for $15.00? Approx. how many articles of clothing fits?

It is a medium sized bag with a drawstring. Smaller than a standard pillowcase. You could stuff plenty of items in the bag. Much less expensive than the regular laundry list prices.

We had the laundry included with our trip becasue we were in a suite. We had spent three nights prior to the cruise in FLL so had some dirty clothes when we got onto the ship, we threw them in the bag and the next day they were in our room nicley folded and hung up. A few days before the end of the crusie we did the same thing so that we could go home with clean clothing. We fit a lot of stuff into the bags and were pleased with the laundry service. It was the first time we had used it and I must admit very nice to come home and not have to worry about doing a ton of laundry :)

It is definitely worth it. More so if your itinerary includes different climate zones, warm days/cool nights, or is longer than 7 days. I don't pack lighter, but I do pack a more varied wardrobe. Well, my DW packs it, I just pick it out.
On our just completed 7-day on the Oosterdam, we sent stuff out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday morning. It was always returned the next day. Thursday night, our steward asked that if we had laundry to go out of Friday (our last full day on board) we bring it to his room early in the morning (before 9) so it could be returned that day. Everything was laundered properly, pressed and folded (or hung, as needed).

Good Morning,
On our last cruise we purchased the plan and loved it. My formal dress came back pressed beautifully as did my husbands slacks and white shirts. For this cruise we are in a suite so I am not ironing anything! No laundry or ironing on this vacation! 3 days and counting. My head is already on the beach!

Hey Crazy: Enjoy your cruise and the fact that you don't have to do laundry :)
Its okay to have your head on the beach just not in the sand.........

We purchased the unlimited laundry on our oosterdam cruise last year and it was well worth it, everything came back done beautifully and with three of us it was easy to fill a bag almost every day, with one exception we got our laundry back the next day.

In an s suite does the unlimited laundry include drycleaning or just laundered item?

Unlimited laundry was $50.00 per babin up to 75 items.
If it's limited to a number of items, how can it be unlimited? I was under the impression there was no piece limit with the truly "unlimited" laundry.

We always take the "package". I have always put out as much as needed to be done each day and every day. The first day is always a lot because we have spent time flying and then a few days in port before boarding. After that, we put out everything each day that needs washing except for my fine lingerie.
On the Prinsendam last October I calculated that on the first day we had already put out over $30 of laundry and the whole package only cost us $75 for the 13 days.

We have a B category verandah on the Volendam. I don't think laundry is included. How do you purchase the unlimited laundry? It sounds like a good idea.:)

We did bag of laundry on a 4 day cruise for 412 and unlimited was $28. Bag is smaller than standard laundry bag but it fit a ton of clothes(3pairs of pants and 8+ shirts). Clothes were clean and really nicely pressed.
