In a national observance that combines Veterans Day and Memorial Day, Australia and Canada will observe a two minutes silence On 11/11 at 11 AM.
Poppies are worn (Canada and Australia), as they bloomed between the crosses of the fallen soldiers in Flanders fields, and Rosemary is worn (Australia), as it grew wild on the Gallipoli peninsula, and for its reputed virtue to sharpen memory - particularly appropriate on this day.
The freedom to cruise (and complain about it) - and much more than that we owe to our veterans.
All CC members are acutely aware of this, but it seems appropriate to mention it at this time of year.

Thanks for the reminder that ALL of our countries have Veterans that we are grateful to...
Happy Veterans/Remembrance Day tomorrow to those who have served their country...
I, for one, will pause at 11:00 on 11/11 to remember their sacrifice...

'Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching?'
VIDEO:
http://www.australianwarheroes.com/
A national war memorial song and a tribute to the ANZAC spirit of mateship, courage and sacrifice.
Over 100,000 Australians have lost their lives in the service and defence of our country. Along with their mates, they're marching once again, in the towns and cities, across our great land.
The song is timeless and honours the memory of those who have died in the service and defence of Australia in war. The marching theme of the song is especially powerful and supports the spirit of ANZAC Day. The song does not glorify war or endorse conflict of any kind. The song simply highlights the sacrifice of many Australians who died in the service and defence of our country in war

There was another song on World War I that Liam Clancy used to sing. It was called "And the Bland Played Waltzing Matilda."
On another note, in the USA today November 11th is called Veterans Day. In a former day in my youth we used to call it ARMISTACE DAY which, in my opinion, was more apropos. I say that because it was at 11:11 AM on 11/11/18 that the Armistace ending World War I was signed.

And here in the UK - same time (two minutes silence), same date. We wear our poppies with pride as we remember those who gave their lives in two world wars and those of our forces who have given - and unfortunately are still giving - their lives so that we may live in a better world. We pray our boys will all come home safely.

Here in Canada, too, we wear our poppies. I've been wearing mine both virtually (see my avatar) and IRL for a couple of weeks. So few of the WW II vets remain :( We owe so much to the members of the Armed Forces, both current and past.

Yes.
Armistace Day marked the ending of the War to end all Wars. Then we had World War 2 and Korea and you know the rest. To be inclusive of all fallen soldiers and veterans it was changed, but for me also it resonates as Armistace Day.
It seems there will always be wars to suffer, and Heroes to exalt.
Pity us the former, and live eternally grateful for the latter.
Smooth sailing...

Armistice Day is also marked in New Zealand, a group was gathering to lay wreaths at the war memorial, when I was passing at 1045 this morning.

I was in Seoul recently and took some time to visit the war memorial which includes a listing of the fallen Canadian soldiers in what many call "the forgotten war" so thought of that recent experience as Rememberence Day approaches.

That is a song that is very poignant.
Its "very real" so I can't put a link up for it, but if you google "Liam Clancy The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" the video will come up.
All the more reason to be serious about valuing and respecting the valour and sacrifice of our veterans.
This is the day for it.
Smooth sailing...
