Hey, kids. I'm sailing on the Zuiderdam in late August, in an S (suite) category room. I have a question about the balcony furniture. I know they provide 2 chairs and a table, and then it seems two lounge-ish chairs with ottomans. Does anyone know if it is possible to request a chaise lounge (similar to the ones found on the wrap-around balconies in the aft suites) in place of the chair/ottoman combo? I'm not even sure one would fit, although the balconies in the suites look larger than those in the other rooms. Just curious if anyone has ever tried asking or has been able to arrange it. Thanks for answering.

The midship suites have 2 chairs with ottmans and a small cocktail table along with a regular table and 4 chairs - picnic style.

You can have your room steward bring ONE lounge to the verandah and it will be the plastic kind from the aft pool. When we were on the Oosterdam, several suites around us ordered a lounge chair and never used tham as it was very crowded on the verandah. Your room steward cannot remove the chairs and ottomans as there is no place to store them. When we were on the Westerdam - no one ordered a lounge chair.

Thanks for the info! Could you possibly tell me how comfortable the chairs with the ottomans are? Could you lay out there and/or sunbathe using that configuration? Could you nap in one? I am now starting to regret that I did not ask for an aft suite with the wraparound balcony so we'd have the two teak loungers. Our cruise is sold out of those rooms. Oh, well, can't complain. I'm sure our suite will be fabulous, really looking forward to it. Next time we'll think about the aft balcony!

The chairs and ottomans are comfortable for sitting only. You cannot lay out on them. Also the midship verandahs are completely covered and unless your verandah is facing the sun you get nothing but shade.

Too bad the aft suites are sold out as they do provide more sun and do have the lounge chairs.

Well, since we are travelling south and then north again, at least half the time we'll be facing the sun. :) I tried to plan it so we'd have nice sunsets at least part of the time (er...not that I'd have failed at that). Sigh. Well, I am (again) not going to complain. A nice big room, a nice balcony, a nice ship (please tell me this is a nice ship...). Should be good. Thanks for all the info.

There's a good picture of a mid-ship S verandah here (http://vquill.com/images/veranda3982.jpg). One of the chairs from the table is actually behind me, so you can't see it. It's not hard at all to fall asleep on these lounge chairs. I've got first hand experience!

Hey, thanks for the picture! That is exactly what I needed to show my husband why we're paying extra for the suite. :) And I have a feeling we'll be able to get comfortable out there even if they gave us rocks to sit on...anything beats this desk chair at work. Perhaps with a few of the pillows from the room we can fluff up the deck chairs, too. Can't wait! Thanks again.

Great picture Dave. Is there a big difference in the verandah furniture between the S and SS suites. Just curious.. Just booked a SS suite. Anyone have a picture of an SS suite verandah? Notice that your from sunny N Ca. So are we...Up north in the wine country...Still can't wait for the blue waters of the Caribbean..

answer for live2cruise we just stayed in ss6115. the only difference in the s cat balcony is that it is wider not any deeper than the picture posted above.

Thanks Hollyhawk! Another question that I have is "Are the verandahs private in the way of people above being able to see below? It doesn't look like it is a problem for midship SS cat. I notice that the aft suites are open to people above.

Mid-ship verandahs are quite private.
