Lido Aft deck by Seaview Bar and I think also on stateroom verandahs (but I could be wrong on the verandahs) I think this is true of all the HAL ships.

Cigar smoking is permitted on all balconies and verandahs.

All the ship usually have a "Smoking Under The Stars" at the aft pool -- held usually at 9 or 9:30 PM.

On one of our cruises our upwind neighbor had a cigar every evening on the verandah. Not being a smokers this did bother my wife and I but knowing the rules we knew that he was in his right and we just avoided the verandah during his time. We would prefer a no smoking policy, but we try and know the rules before we book a cruise. We could always go back to Celebrity, but we like HAL.

On the Noordam you can also smoke cigars inside, in the Oak Room next to the Crow's Nest.

HAL's policy with regard to cigars is ambiguous. While it states "Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms...", it also states "Cigar and pipesmoking is permitted on the outside decks only."

- Does this mean ONLY cigarettes can be smoked in the stateroom?
- Is a stateroom balcony/veranda considered an outside 'deck'?

Here is the smoking policy -

"For the comfort of all of our guests, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of:
•Casino
•Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)
•Outside Decks
•Seaview Bar (except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam)
•Sports Bar
•Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam)

Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests. All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.
