Hello to all. My DH and I are new to this forum. This site provides a wealth of information!!! We have previously cruised on Voyager and Coral Princess (both wonderful). Despite the recent history aboard the Maadam, we are thrilled about our upcoming cruise on her. We will share our experience when we return. We enjoy fishing....does anyone have any advice about fishing at the following ports: HMC, St. Thomas, St.Maartin, and Antigua? Would appreciate any information. Thanks...T&S

Welcome to the boards.

We have sailed many times on the Maasdam - no major problems.

Fishing - cannot help you there.

Welcome to the HAL forum of Cruise Critic! :)

Pull up a keyboard and join right in. You'll find that most of the natives are harmless most of the time.
And when we're not---just say "cruise" and we start salivating. :D

Looking forward to your report on your cruise!

Welcome aboard the HAL board! I'm afraid I can't help you much with fishing, either. But if you catch it, I'll help you eat it!

There is fishing at Half Moon Cay. I think it is called flat fishing. Check the HAL web site. When are you going.

Welcome to the HAL board! You will continue to find lots of good information here. There are many extremely experienced cruisers here, so there's hardly a question that can be asked but what someone will have the answer.

I'm not a fisherman, so I can't help there. I know there are lots of opportunities on Alaska cruises ... but I don't hear much being offered in the Caribbean. Perhaps you can visit the Ports of Call board here on Cruise Critic and find some independent tour operators that would take you out on a fishing expedition from one or more of those ports. Good luck!

Welcome to the Holland America Board aka HAL Board. We are a friendly bunch with a wealth of information. We too will be on the Maasdam for the first time this year but not till July for New England/Canada.

Welcome! We"re Pretty New To The Site Ourselves And Have Met Some Really Nice Folks. I Havent Done Any Fishing But I Read Under The Excursions That It Is Offered A Bit Expensive Imo And If You Catch A "trophy" You Must Release It> Might Be A Painful Expierence For Some> Anyway Welcome And Happy Sailing!

Hi and welcome!

I still think of myself as a "newbie" as we just completed our first cruise this past Sunday.

ALL fishing at HMC is catch and release. There are not any other fishing excurions listed in the shore excursion booklet for the Eastern Caribbean from HAL.

As stated above I would check the Port of call section of the board. I'm sure you can find something if you look hard.

Thank you for all the replies. We will continue searching for info. regarding fishing at the Port Board. We've tried emailing different charter groups on-line in the various locations, but to no avail. For those who have been to HMC....Did you notice any restrictions about fishing from shore? Just trying to see if it is worth it for DH to bring his gear. :)

Welcome, Sailon.

Sorry I cannot help with the fishing question but am happy you found us and hope you'll share some comments with us after your cruise.

We have cruised a great deal on Maasdam and love that "dam" ship.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Since Hal runs flats and deep sea (over a wreck) charters I don't think they would let you fish for free. One side is beach and the shallow back cove is where they do their bonefishing. There is deep water within an easy cast of shore on the south side of the island (right side as you enter the channel to the tender dock) but this is coral reef and no one is allowed on it because it's considered a fragile environment You might try calling Hal and ask them if it's OK to fish there.

Wecome to the HAL boards. This is a wonderful place to find out "all you need to know" about cruising! Lots of very friendly people here. WE tend to keep each other going between cruises. It's so much fun to hear about others' cruise experiences...many are so generous to share their adventures on board!

K&RCurt....just completed your first cruise, huh? Welcome to the addiction!

Not a fishing oportunity, but I would really consider getting a taxi and taking a drive up to shirley heighst which is the old British lookout from the 1700s...a spectacular view of most of the island and a view of the water that could have come right out of a travel poster. at least 8 different colors from deep blue to vibrant turquoise (sp?) It was one of the highlights of our trips to the Caribbean
