I'm going to be visiting Tortola on the Serenade of the Seas in January and am interested in taking ferry over to St Thomas for the day and was wondering anyone had any tips regarding ferry companies. Also, where exactly does the ship dock? I've found one ferry company (Native Son) that operates from both Road Town and West End. Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't have anything against Tortola, it's just that I have some friends that live over on St Thomas and has hoping to be able to pay them and visit. How big of an ordeal is going through customs / immigrations?

Have them visit you. Makes much more sense as they have no deadline to make a sail away!:) You really do not have enough time and you can not depend on the ferries to always be on time either. You would have to go through US customs and immigration going to St Thomas and BVI customs and immigration going back to Tortola. Too risky for me:D

I can tell you from experience with the ferry service, to have your friends meet YOU on Tortola. You may board and sit like we did for an hour+ before it's full and they take off. I wouldn't chance missing the ship.
