I'm taking a 30 day cruise that leaves out of San Diego, CA - would really appreciated any information on parking... I may be traveling alone so both convenience and expense are considerations. Thanks so much, in advance!!!!

If you`ll go to North American Homeports here on CC and click on West Coast Departures you can find several posts regarding parking locations and discount coupons for San Diego.

I see you`re from California. Amtrak has a station within 2 blocks of the San Diego port. EZ walk to the ship.

Amtrak from a cheaper place to park your car long-term is a good suggestion as well as looking into the SD airport parking long-term rates as they have shuttles to the cruise port.

The SD trolly also takes you to the port area again if you can find a place for some long-term parking. How about renting a car instead of driving you own and just drop it off and then pick up another one when you get back. Or taking one of the long-distance buses to the airport or port or even a private limousine hire - which for the two times you need the pick up and drop off, may well be cheaper than storing your car in public parking for that long.

It would be great to find a friend of a friend in SD who can store it for you there while you are gone (any church, club or alumni affiliations that you can network for this sort of connection, fee or not?)

We've used San Diego Airport Parking (sdairportparking(dot)com) a few times. They offer coupons down here in San Diego sometimes.

They will shuttle you directly to the port from the parking lot, and you can call them when you get off the ship and they will come back and get you.

If you are on a 30 day cruise, and are possibly traveling alone, you may have a hard time rolling 30 days worth of luggage down hill from the train station (a long block), then crossing a super busy multi lane highway, then taking your bags north about a half block to the entrance of the port, then getting your papers out so security will let you in the gate. Once you get in the gate, you can wave down a porter... but by then I would'nt have the energy:o!

I think they're rates are under $110.00 for the month.

Have a great trip!

We're taking our first cruise out of San Diego over the Dec. holidays. I've reserved at "San Diego Airport Parking Co." at the monthly rate of $105, but can't say whether this is a good place because I have no experience with parking in that area. Someone on CC had recommended it....

It is not a "super busy multi lane highway", it is a normal street with lights and crosswalk. I cross all the time holding my 4 year-old's hand (with 8 and 11 yr old crossing with me) and walking at his speed. (They love taking the train and going and watching the ships or taking a ferry to Coronado). Yes it is a walk, but I see people do it with luggage all the time. (And there is no hill...perhaps a slight incline, but definately not a hill)

We used San Diego Airport Parking last week and hardly ever touched our bags. When we drove to the car lot, they unloaded our bags from our car into the shuttle, when we got to the port they unloaded it from the shuttle to the porter. Coming back (disembarking), we did have to move our luggage from the luggage pickup area to the shuttle area, but that was it.
