Does the Oosterdam have a good sportsbar on the Mexican
Riviera cruise out of San Diego? I wish to take the ship in January or April but I also like to watch American football (NFL) and American baseball. I took an NCL cruise in the fall and got no sports except highlights. Since I am a big sports fan, the cruise was frustrating to me. So I would like to know if the Oosterdam shows current American sports like the NFL games live? Thanks. David

The only time I have heard of NFL games being on the TV is possibly during the playoffs. I don't ever recall seeing baseball but suspect they may show the playoffs. The mainstay of the sports bar is soccer and to be honest, I don't think I have ever seen more than a handful of people in the sports bar.

Yes, they have a nice sports bar and last year we caught a bit of the Final Four. I would add, however - with all due respect - that if you are frustrated on a cruise because you cannot watch the NFL or your lowly buckeyes, perhaps therapy is in order. Take a break from your addiction and enjoy the cruise. Do you have a family? Take some time and get to know them. Read a book. Just relax. It really doesn't matter who wins an NFL game. :p

Generally speaking you're not going to get American sports feeds like you were at home. They make special arrangements for the various championships (i.e., NCAA basketball, NCAA football bowl games, the Super Bowl, World Series) but not every game on every channel during the season. I've heard all sorts of reasons from they can't get them at sea in some locations to they don't pay for the service to there's not enough demand. It's probably a bit, or a lot, of all and other considerations. Over the years I've been in and out of the Sports Bar and my impression is that what you typically get is highlight shows and lots of soccer.

Since you say both Jan and April are options why not just wait and go in April? You will miss some early season MLB stuff, but at least you won't have to worry about missing the NFL playoffs.

Thanks for the replies so far. I will respond more at a later date. But has anyone recently been on the "O" and has seen an American sport such as college football or NFL football live. My previous experiece is that the are some cruise ships that have broadcasts of American sports and some don't. How do I find out which does and which doesn't? Thank you.

I was just on the “O” in late Oct and I am a HUGE sports fan. There is basically only one channel for sports on the ship and it switches to an international version of ESPN once you get a day into the cruise, if my memory serves me right. It kind of randomly flipped from different American sporting events on any of the abc/espn/etc affiliates. We saw some college football, some pro football, I think a NASCAR at one point, and even an NBA game. It was very random. I did hear people making requests at the front desk on the first day so I am not sure if that was successful, but worth a shot. The sports bar is pretty cool, kinda quaint. It’s right next to the casino so depending on where you sit you will hear slots and smell smoke. The back side of the sports bar had cool couches with numerous TVs. Hope this helps and hope you have a great cruise :)

We were on the "O" last week and there were several NFL games being watched, both in the bar itself and in the backside area of the bar-tough to explain but it is in another area behind the bar. I think there were at least 3 big screen televisions. I would have gone in and watched but the smoke was too much for me.
